Job Description
An 80-year group, COBRA promotes its own efficient business model, the result of the combination of decentralization, geographical diversification and technical specialization of more than 20,000 professionals in more than 43 countries. Cobra is divided into four main sectors of activity, Networks, Specialised installations, integrated projects and concession assets.
ACEREZ, a partnership of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, has been appointed network operator by Energic to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission network. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project.
The Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Transmission Project will build new high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and supporting infrastructure to transfer power generated by solar and wind projects to electricity consumers. The new infrastructure is expected to be operational by 2028 and will initially unlock up to 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity.
The project consists of 90km of 500kV overhead transmission lines and 150 km of 330kV transmission lines for generator connections, stretching from Elong Elong in the west through to Barigan Creek in the east, via an energy hub at Merotherie.
The Commissioning and Integration Specialist is responsible for verifying system functionality, managing interface testing, resolving communication and control issues, and ensuring all EMS/SCADA systems meet project specifications, regulatory requirements, and operational performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commissioning activities for EMS, SCADA, Plant Controller, and power plant communication systems.
Verify installation and configuration of SCADA servers, workstations, RTUs, communication gateways, network switches, firewalls, and historian systems.
Review and validate SCADA architecture, communication topology, and network design.
Configure and test real-time monitoring, control, alarm management, event recording, and reporting functions.
Coordinate with OEM for EMS/SCADA design finalisation, perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and Integrated System Tests (IST).
Integrate EMS/SCADA systems with: Substation Automation Systems (SAS), Protection relays, Revenue and check metering systems, Weather monitoring stations, Grid operator control centres, Power Conversion Systems (PCS)
Commission industrial communication networks.
Verify LAN/WAN connectivity between plant equipment and control centers.
Troubleshoot communication issues involving switches, routers, firewalls, gateways, and fiber optic systems.
Conduct redundancy and failover testing for communication infrastructure.
Required Skills and Competencies
Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5+ years' experience in substation commissioning, control systems, SCADA, or power system integration.
Strong safety leadership and commitment to quality outcomes.
Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
Proactive problem solver with strong analytical skills
Demonstrated knowledge of Australian Standards and utility requirements applicable to transmission and distribution substations.
Experience working with transmission network operators, utilities, OEMs, engineering consultants, and construction contractors.
Demonstrated experience in the commissioning, testing, and integration of EMS, SCADA, RTU, PLC, HMI, and protection systems within transmission and distribution substations.
Strong understanding of high-voltage substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, reactive plant, and control systems.
This role is bus-in, bus-out, with camp-style accommodation provided on a 14 days on/7 days off roster, based out of the Central West Orana Region.
