JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Assists students with coursework, study strategies, and using college software and resources. Provides tutorial assistance in natural sciences courses, as well as informal help with a range of general education courses. Supports students in the use of software and other technology used to complete coursework. Communicates regularly with faculty, advisors, and other academic support staff regarding curriculum, materials, and students’ needs and challenges with course material. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Provides tutorial assistance in natural sciences courses.
Assists students with the basic skills of English, reading, writing, math and computers across a range of general education courses.
Assists students in developing and applying appropriate study/learning strategies.
Assists students in using standard college software programs and computer-aided instruction.
Serves as a liaison between academic support services and program faculty to support students’ academic needs proactively and collaboratively.
Schedules, prepares, and facilitates workshops, study sessions, and/or exam reviews as assigned.
Collaborates with other staff and faculty to insure effective tutorial support.
Promotes academic support services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff and students.
Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Part-time, 28 hours per week within the window of Monday - Thursday, 9am - 7pm
On-premise position located at Elkhorn Valley Campus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic math, English, writing, computer and study skills.
- Knowledge about, and demonstrated success in, a range of college-level courses, preferably with expertise in a specific subject area such as the natural sciences, business/accounting, information technology, or digital arts and design.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of, or ability to learn, current college supported software applications.
- Understanding of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and understanding in stressful situations.
- Ability to work well independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree.
- One year of related work experience in educational environment.
- Knowledge of learning assistance techniques strongly desired.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software, Raster and Vector preferred.
- Knowledge of Spanish or another second language preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience considered.
- Must pass background check.
