Museum Associate – French Valley Discovery Hangar
This is a temporary, 25/hour per week assignment and is expected to last from date of hire for approximately 6-8 months.
The Museum Associate supports the overall operations of the French Valley Discovery Hangar by providing excellent visitor service and assisting with daily museum functions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with the public in a unique cultural setting and helping create a welcoming, engaging experience for every guest. This position also assists with museum programs and events, including basic event support and coordination as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Provide quality customer service to visitors, guests, and the public.
- Assist visitors and guests by answering questions and providing information about the museum, programs, and events.
- Assist with ticket sales with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support and promote museum programs and events through visitor engagement and basic outreach assistance.
- Assist with event and facility readiness, including set-up, tear-down, resetting spaces after events, and helping maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to support a positive visitor experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1+ years of previous museum, retail, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.
- Must be outgoing, customer service oriented, and willing to adapt to a fast-paced museum environment.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Strong teamwork skills with a positive attitude.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work schedule, including evening and weekend shifts.
- Frequent carrying and lifting of museum materials is required.
- Position requires long periods of standing and the ability to push and pull 20 pounds.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.
- Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
