Purpose of the role
To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.
Accountabilities
- Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
- Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
- Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
- Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
- Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
- Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

To be successful as a “Infrastructure Design Engineer (AVP)", you should have experience with:
Basic/ Essential Qualifications:
- Design, review, and govern enterprise infrastructure solutions across operating systems, databases, storage, virtualization, middleware, and cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with organizational standards, security requirements, and long-term sustainability objectives.
- Demonstrate strong technical understanding of Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware virtualization platforms, physical server infrastructure, and high availability and disaster recovery architectures.
- Evaluate and optimize database infrastructure solutions including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL, ensuring scalability, resiliency, operational supportability, and cost effectiveness.
- Perform infrastructure capacity planning, utilization analysis, and performance optimization using monitoring and observability platforms, ensuring infrastructure designs are supported by data-driven decisions and business requirements.
- Manage end-to-end infrastructure delivery by coordinating with application development teams, operations teams, cloud engineering teams, and infrastructure service providers to ensure timely and successful implementation.
- Utilize reporting, analytics, and visualization tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SharePoint, Power BI, Tableau, and observability platforms to deliver infrastructure insights, service reporting, and demand management dashboards.
- Develop and implement automation solutions using scripting and programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Shell Scripting, or similar technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Apply knowledge of enterprise storage technologies including Storage Area Network, Network Attached Storage, backup platforms, and object storage solutions to design resilient and scalable infrastructure services.
- Provide technical leadership and governance for infrastructure demand, technical debt remediation, cloud migration initiatives, and adoption of standardized infrastructure patterns across business applications.
- Ensure infrastructure solutions comply with security, risk, regulatory, governance, and control requirements while maintaining operational stability and service excellence.
Desirable skillsets/ good to have:
- Experience with public cloud platforms and cloud-native services, including infrastructure migration, modernization, cost optimization, and hybrid cloud operating models.
- Knowledge of containerized application platforms, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and related orchestration technologies supporting modern application architectures.
- Understanding of Information Technology Infrastructure Library service management practices, software development lifecycle processes, change management, release management, and project delivery methodologies.
- Experience working with infrastructure observability, monitoring, log analytics, and performance management platforms to support proactive infrastructure decision-making.
- Professional certifications in cloud computing, database administration, Unix administration, networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, or enterprise infrastructure technologies.
- Strong stakeholder management, meeting facilitation, and communication skills with the ability to influence architectural decisions across technology and business teams.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, and automation technologies that can improve infrastructure operations, service delivery, and operational efficiency.
- Experience supporting infrastructure modernization, application transformation, technical debt reduction, platform rationalization, and enterprise technology refresh programs.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment practices, infrastructure as code principles, configuration management tools, and automated delivery pipelines.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
