Position Summary
The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) will provide strategic and operational leadership for Arrow International’s environmental, health, and safety programs across its manufacturing and distribution network. This role will establish company-wide EHS standards, strengthen safety culture, reduce workplace risk, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
The Director will partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Distribution, Engineering, Human Resources, and site leadership to build a consistent and proactive EHS operating model across the organization. This person will be expected to spend significant time within Arrow’s facilities, working directly with site leaders and employees to identify risk, improve processes, develop safety capabilities, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
This is a highly visible leadership position for an experienced EHS professional who understands complex manufacturing and distribution environments and can balance strategy, compliance, culture, and hands-on execution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and lead Arrow’s enterprise-wide EHS strategy across manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, and office locations.
- Establish consistent EHS policies, standards, procedures, and expectations across all Arrow facilities.
- Partner with site leadership to build a strong, proactive safety culture and embed safety accountability throughout the organization.
- Establish and monitor EHS performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators, OSHA recordables, lost-time incidents, near misses, corrective actions, and other key safety measures.
- Lead and standardize incident investigation and root cause analysis processes, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are identified, implemented, and sustained.
- Lead initiatives to reduce workplace injuries, workers’ compensation exposure, operational risk, and recurring safety events.
- Oversee compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Serve as the primary company representative for OSHA/EPA inspections, inquiries, complaints, and other regulatory interactions.
- Develop and maintain company-wide programs related to LOTO, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, electrical safety, PPE, HazCom, contractor safety, emergency response, and other critical manufacturing safety risks.
- Lead facility EHS audits and risk assessments and partner with site leadership to prioritize and close identified gaps.
- Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations on equipment modifications, new equipment installations, automation projects, facility expansions, and other capital projects to ensure safety requirements are incorporated from the beginning.
- Provide leadership and oversight for environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, spill prevention, permitting, reporting, and other applicable environmental requirements.
- Develop and oversee EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, managers, and site leadership.
- Provide guidance and development to site safety committees and local EHS resources, creating consistency and accountability across locations.
- Partner with Human Resources and Operations on workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, occupational health, and employee injury management.
- Prepare and present EHS performance, trends, risks, and improvement initiatives to senior leadership.
- Identify opportunities to continuously improve Arrow’s EHS systems, processes, technology, and overall safety performance.
- Support sustainability and environmental initiatives as appropriate within the broader EHS strategy.
- Perform other duties and strategic projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
- 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably within manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, or another industrial environment.
- 5+ years of EHS leadership experience, with demonstrated responsibility for building and improving safety programs.
- Experience supporting multiple facilities or a geographically distributed operation strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated experience reducing workplace injuries and improving safety performance through measurable, sustainable programs.
- Strong knowledge of incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action, workers’ compensation, and risk reduction methodologies.
- Experience with manufacturing safety programs including LOTO, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, electrical safety, HazCom, PPE, and contractor safety.
- Demonstrated ability to influence plant managers, operations leaders, supervisors, and front-line employees without relying solely on positional authority.
- Experience developing EHS metrics, dashboards, audits, and management reporting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel to Arrow facilities as needed.
- CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar professional certification preferred.
- Experience with sustainability or ESG reporting is a plus but not required.
