Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Packaging
- Design sensor housings, brackets, mounts, and protective features for electromagnetic sensors exposed to environmental stress conditions.
- Create and release 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D drawings compliant with OEM and internal standards.
- Perform packaging and integration studies considering the parts in movement
- Perform tolerance stack-ups to ensure sensor performance across manufacturing variation, vehicle assembly, and in-use movement.
- Account for water exposure, thermal expansion, vibration, shock, and corrosion in mechanical designs.
- Design components suitable for high-volume production using injection molding, overmolding, insert molding, stamping, joining or machining.
- Support material selection for plastics, elastomers, and metals.
- Collaborate with magnetic and electrical engineers to translate performance requirements into mechanical constraints.
- Support tooling development, part validation, and supplier technical discussions.
- Incorporate DFM/DFA and cost-optimization initiatives without compromising durability.
- Support design reviews, design changes, and customer issue resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive mechanical design, preferably in sensors or wheel-area components.
- Proficiency in CATIA v5 or NX.
- Strong understanding of packaging, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
- Experience with harsh-environment automotive components (wheel area, underbody, or powertrain).
- Experience with electromagnetic, Hall-effect, or inductive sensors.
- Knowledge of sealing concepts, elastomers, and overmolding techniques.
- Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA, PPAP, and OEM design standards.
- Experience working in Tier-1 or Tier-2 automotive supplier organizations.
- Effective cross-discipline communication (mechanical electrical production).
- Ability to balance performance, cost, and durability in high-volume programs.
