Summary:
The Middleware Specialist in Application Managed Services (AMS) will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of middleware platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of integration solutions built on IBM DataPower. This role emphasizes operational excellence, proactive monitoring, and continuous improvement to meet stringent SLAs and business continuity requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Service Delivery & Operations:
Provide 24x7 support for DataPower environments under AMS scope.
Monitor system health, performance, and capacity implement proactive measures to prevent incidents.
Ensure compliance with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management).
Maintain disaster recovery plans and participate in DR drills.
Incident & Problem Management:
Troubleshoot and resolve middleware issues within defined SLAs.
Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to reduce recurring incidents.
Collaborate with L2/L3 teams for escalations and complex problem resolution.
Change & Release Management:
Deploy DataPower configurations across environments.
Validate and implement patches, firmware upgrades, and security updates.
Maintain version control and documentation for all changes.
Performance & Optimization:
Conduct regular performance tuning for DataPower gateways.
Optimize resource utilization and improve throughput for high-volume transactions.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify automation opportunities for routine tasks (e.g., health checks, certificate renewals).
Suggest enhancements to improve reliability and reduce operational overhead.
Professional & Technical Skills:
IBM DataPower:
Administration of Data power including installation, upgrade, configuration, security, and monitoring.
Strong experience with WSP, MPG, SSL/TLS, WS-Security, and certificate management.
Good Understanding on API Security, DataPower logs analysis.
Skilled in Development/Enhancement using Multi-Protocol Gateway and Web Service Proxy
MQ :
Good at running MQSC and CP Commands. -Ability to handle MQ Client applications & MQ client configuration.
Should be able to manage, configure and supervise MQ Listeners, Channels, Topics, Queues, MQ Log files, Authentication & Dead Letter Queues. -Able to configure High Availability for MQ servers. Supporting applications with MQ connectivity issues.
Ability to understand and troubleshoot MQ related issue
Basic understanding on AIX/Linux.
PMR
Open PMRs with IBM Support for product issues, defects, or critical incidents.
Ensure accurate details: product version, environment, logs, and error codes.
Collect diagnostic data (trace files, logs, configuration snapshots) as requested by IBM.
Use IBM tools like dmpmqcfg, mqsicreatebar, or DataPower export utilities for required artifacts.
Apply interim fixes (iFix) or patches provided by IBM after validation.
Document changes and perform regression testing post-fix deployment.
AMS Tools & Processes:
Familiarity with ticketing systems (ServiceNow), Splunk etc.
Professional Experience
2+ years in middleware administration and AMS operations.
Proven track record in managing critical production environments with high availability requirements.
Experience in incident triage, SLA adherence, and client communication.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
Additional Information:
