Job description:POSITION SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist supports the developmental needs of preschool-aged children (ages 3–5). This role includes conducting assessments, determining eligibility for services, and developing and implementing individualized intervention plans for children with developmental delays or disabilities. Services may include direct therapy, classroom-based support, and consultation to ensure coordinated care and successful transitions, including from Part C (early intervention) to Part B (preschool special education) under IDEA. The therapist collaborates with families, educators, interdisciplinary teams, and external agencies. Travel may be required to effectively support the assigned caseload.Calendar Days - 183-days per year.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this position effectively, an individual must be capable of fulfilling each essential responsibility to an acceptable standard. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to support individuals with disabilities in performing the essential functions.Conduct developmental assessments and evaluations to determine eligibility for occupational therapy services.Develop and implement individualized therapy plans that support fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, play, and participation in daily routines.Provide direct therapy services in both individual and group settings, using play-based and developmentally appropriate approaches.Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Facilitate the transition process from Part C to Part B, including collaboration with service coordinators, participation in transition planning meetings, and support for families navigating eligibility and service changes.Consult with families, classroom staff, and related service providers to integrate therapy goals into classroom environments and home routines.Document services, progress, and outcomes in accordance with IDEA, state regulations, and center policies.Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, developmental specialists, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to services.Maintain IDEA, HIPAA, FERPA, and other applicable regulations.Participate in ongoing professional development and training.Attend staff team meetings as required.Perform additional related duties as assigned.REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and EXPERIENCEBachelors, Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy.Current state license (or eligibility for licensure) as an Occupational Therapist through the Wyoming Board of Occupational Therapy. Will also consider applicants eligible for a Limited License through the Wyoming Board of Occupational Therapy. Supervision is available.One year of experience working with infants/toddlers and/or preschool children with developmental disabilities or clinical experience with preschool children is preferred.Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within 3 months of hire.Must successfully complete abuse/neglect Central Registry check, sex offender and criminal background screening, and fingerprinting.TB risk assessment to be completed within 30 days of hire.Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and liability insurance required if position involves travel.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Oral and written communication skills for effective interaction with children and adults.Capability to stay calm and professional in environments with frequent interruptions.Capacity to remain alert, adaptable, and professional at all times.Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.Skill in multitasking and managing tasks effectively to meet deadlines.Competence in communicating, interacting, and working cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Capacity to perform duties with minimal direct supervision.Knowledge of IDEA Part C and Part B, including transition procedures and eligibility criteria.Awareness of workplace safety, adherence to safety protocols, practice of safe work habits, appropriate use of safety equipment, and reporting of unsafe conditions to supervisors.Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of program and client information.Adherence to organization policies, standards, and training.Knowledge of special education technology software and tools.PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The following physical, environmental, and mental requirements are necessary to perform this job's essential duties. Services are primarily delivered in preschool classrooms, childcare, and community settings.Duties may require various physical positions including stooping, kneeling, crouching, grasping, holding, reaching, sitting, and moving between locations.Must be able to lift children or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and over 50 pounds with assistance.Position requires managing moderate to high levels of mental and emotional demands.Flexible scheduling to meet family needs.Able to travel to sites, meetings, and trainings.Willing to drive in adverse weather conditions.REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE:Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Education and general direction from the Executive Director.
