Furnace Operator

Description

The Furnace Operator is responsible for operation of the continuous heat treat furnace.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

•  Confirm that all the furnace parameters are correct to produce quality product.
•  Monitor the furnace settings and feed rates to ensure quality and production standards.
•  Change furnace settings when required.
•  Stage material in the designated areas according to the production schedule.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Loading and unloading of the furnace.
•  Safe operation of the forklift per SOP.
•  Operation of wet saws and grinders for sample preparation.
•  The use of Rockwell hardness testers for the inspection of finished product.
•  Inspection of product as specified in the control plan.
•  Practice good housekeeping to ensure safety and quality.
•  Adherence to the quality policy as it applies to spilled material.

CERTIFICATION AND EDUCATION

•  High school graduate or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE

•  3-5 years’ production experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

•  Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
•  Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•  Work activities may include constant standing, walking, climbing, sitting, kneeling, stooping, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing, and crouching. Involves some lifting, 50 lbs or less. WORKING CONDITIONS

 • Will be exposed to diverse manufacturing environments. 

•  Will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous material. 

SAFETY 

• Proper PPE to be worn while on the shop floor, to include safety glasses, hearing protection, “long pants” and steel toe boots if required and no loose or baggy clothing. 

CLEANLINESS · Ensure work center is clean and free of debris and oil, Make sure everything organized and clean.
