About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Onboarding Technology Team within the Commercial, Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT) organization. This is an exciting opportunity to help build next-generation solutions that support our client onboarding journey. As a member of the team responsible for building a next-generation onboarding platform, you will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performing solutions.
Success in this role requires strong Java development expertise, a solid understanding of server-side architecture and design principles, and the ability to architect, build, and deliver scalable microservices and foundational frameworks that support enterprise-scale applications.
In this role, you will:
Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale API platforms, driving reusable, scalable, and secure API-based solutions across the organization
Evaluate complex, large-scale API architectures against business objectives, enterprise technology standards, and evolving integration patterns, accounting for both technical and non-technical constraints
Design, build, test, and document high-quality APIs, microservices, and platform capabilities to support internal and external integrations
Drive adoption of modern API technologies (REST, event-driven, gateway patterns, etc.), influencing engineering teams to align with industry standards and platform strategies
Lead API-driven initiatives, mentor engineering teams, and promote a platform-first mindset to enable faster product delivery and innovation
Define and implement standards, governance frameworks, and best practices for API development, lifecycle management, and platform engineering
Collaborate with enterprise architects, platform teams, and external partners to resolve complex integration challenges and accelerate API ecosystem growth
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
5 + years of J2EE development experience
5 + years of Microservices experience with RestAPIs
5+ years of experience delivering complex enterprise-wide information technology solutions
Desired Qualifications:
2+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting workflow-driven architectures such as Kogito and related business process automation technologies
2+ years of experience with distributed streaming and event‑driven architectures, using technologies such as Kafka or similar real‑time data processing frameworks
Experience with either Cloud & Container technologies: AKS/Azure/OCP/K8s
Experience in setting up and using Observability/Monitoring tools: Elastic, Kibana, Grafana, AppDynamics, Kafka, Big Panda, Splunk
Engineering and development experience with middleware messaging platforms including Kafka
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is important for packaging and deploying applications in containers and orchestrating them across multiple machines
Experience with one or more CI/CD Pipeline (GitHub, Jenkins), Release management, and Automation tools: Gradle, Maven, Git
Experience with GenAI technologies (LLMs, embeddings, vector stores, prompt engineering), AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Codex), and agentic AI solutions to enhance analytics, automation, and business capabilities.
Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings)
Knowledge of database technologies: MongoDB, SQL/No SQL DB
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
BS/BA degree or higher in science or technology
Expectations:
Lead teams while partnering with global stakeholders across multiple time zones
Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Proficiency in using GitHub Actions and other version control systems is essential for managing code and deployments
Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for working with developers, operations teams, and other stakeholders
