Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $32.39 - $36.04. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

Description

The Patient Access Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for patients and visitors at the Ambulatory Surgery Center, ensuring a positive and seamless experience from arrival through registration and check-in. This role is responsible for accurately verifying patient demographics, insurance coverage, consents, and other required documentation; collecting patient payments; and maintaining accurate records in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The Patient Access Specialist acts as a liaison between patients, visitors, clinical staff, and providers to facilitate efficient patient flow and exceptional customer service while supporting the overall operational success of the surgery center.

Key Responsibilities

  

Welcome patients and visitors in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.

Complete patient check-in and registration processes for surgical procedures.

Verify and update patient demographic, insurance, and contact information.

Ensure all required consents, forms, and supporting documentation are accurately completed and collected.

Collect patient payments, co-pays, deductibles, and other applicable financial responsibilities in accordance with established policies.

Maintain accurate patient records within electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems.

Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and visitors regarding registration requirements, surgery day expectations, and general information.

Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure timely patient flow and address registration-related issues.

Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and all organizational, state, and federal regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality.

Provide exceptional customer service while supporting a welcoming and patient-centered environment.

Perform additional duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support departmental and organizational objectives.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS 

Sitting in the same location or standing/walking; required to stop or lift light material (10 to 20 lbs.) or equipment. 

  

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS 

Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians. 

  

HAZARDS 

OSHA Category 2 

Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials; but employment may require performing unplanned Category 1 tasks. 

  

Job Qualifications

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience in admitting and/or ambulatory setting or patient registration in an outpatient setting. 0-1

EDUCATION REQUIRED
A high school diploma or equivalent (G. E.D.), may include specialized or vocational courses. High School Diploma

EDUCATION PREFERRED
Associates

SKILLS PREFERRED
Working knowledge of medical terminology. Self directed, motivated, resourceful, demonstrates initiative. Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, Outlook. Proficiency in EPIC Prelude and CadenceAbility to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentagesPerforms accurate typing at 45-60 wpmBilingual a plus
