POSITION SUMMARY
Marathon Petroleum is seeking highly motivated Process Technology Operator Interns to gain hands-on experience in a refinery operations environment. This internship is designed to provide students and recent graduates of a Process Technology program with practical exposure to refinery operations while developing technical, operational, and interpersonal skills necessary for a career as a Refinery Operator. The internship offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced Operators, learn refinery processes, and apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and apply technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills in a refinery work environment under the guidance of refinery operations personnel.
Monitor, regulate, troubleshoot, and support the operation of refinery process equipment and systems.
Learn the responsibilities associated with both outside field operations and process control functions.
Gather operational data, analyze results, and assist with identifying appropriate operational adjustments or recommendations.
Assist with refinery unit startups, shutdowns, and other operational activities as assigned.
Build an understanding of refinery processes used to convert crude oil and other feedstocks into transportation fuels and other petroleum products.
Follow all refinery safety, environmental, and operational procedures while working in a controlled refinery environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Current enrollment in a two-year Process Technology program leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree or graduation within one year from one of these programs is required. NOTE: Graduation date or anticipated graduation date MUST be included on resume to be considered for this internship.
Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and not on academic probation.
Will be required to submit official college transcripts.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
WORK SCHEDULE
Refineries operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Interns should be available to work day and night shifts and may transition to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, depending on operational needs. Overtime may or may not be required. Marathon will make reasonable efforts to accommodate school schedules when possible; however, accommodations cannot be guaranteed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to climb structures and ladders exceeding 75 feet.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance.
Ability to work on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces at both ground level and elevated locations.
Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of pre-employment assessments, background checks, medical evaluations, and drug and alcohol screenings as required.
Must demonstrate a commitment to safety and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a safety-sensitive environment.
PAY
Hourly pay for this internship is $31.89.
