Overview:

Authorization Coordinator I

The Authorization Coordinator I is responsible for securing prior authorizations for patient services while ensuring compliance with payer rules and policies. This role involves collaborating with hospital departments, medical practice staff, providers and patients to facilitate the authorization, retro-authorization, and peer-to-peer process utilizing payer portals and automation tools effectively. The Authorization Coordinator I maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance plans and regulations and is adept in identifying patient insurance and benefits to streamline the authorization workflow.  

Hybrid Work Schedule

Required Weekend Rotation ( Sat and Sunday shift every 6 weeks)

Required Holiday Rotation (1 holiday per year)

 

Education 

  • High school graduate or equivalent Required)  

 

Certification/Licensure 

  • No specific certification or licensure requirements 

 

Experience 

  • One year of related experience (Required) 

  • Pre Authorizations, Payer portals, insurance experience

Sentara Independence provides quality outpatient services to the surrounding community. The facility includes an ambulance-accessible emergency room that is supported by board-certified physicians. Sentara Independence houses state-of-the-art medical equipment and highly-skilled physicians and staff.  Sentara Independence is now an extension of the quality services at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital including advanced imaging and physical therapy.
