Description
What's the role?
News Corp Australia is expanding its Health team and looking to recruit a data journalist or analyst to work with us on compelling, high-quality health investigations across The Herald Sun, The Daily Telegraph, Adelaide Advertiser and The Courier Mail.
If you’re an analytical thinker who loves statistics and wants to make a difference in one of the most important areas of people’s lives – their health – then this role is for you. We want someone who is highly skilled in using Excel/Google Sheets for data cleaning, basic formulas, lookup functions, pivot tables and conditional formatting. The main goal is gathering data and pulling clear insights from it. Familiarity with Python and coding would be an added bonus, but it is not essential and we can support skill development in this area.
This is an exciting chance to be part of a team trialling new things in digital health journalism. We are focused on drilling down into useful, localised detail to help inform Australians about how to make the best choices for their own health. We also want to shine a light on shortfalls within the health system.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the National Health Editor, help gather data and work as part of a team to pull together multi-platform journalism packages that include video storytelling, written content and graphics.
Assist audience engagement through data-led storytelling, tailored to reader interests and platform trends.
Champion innovation, collaborate with contributing journalists, and promote a diverse and inclusive newsroom culture.
Who are you?
The ideal candidate will be experienced in data journalism and familiar with coding.
Highly skilled in the use of Excel and Google Sheets.
Proven ability to develop and execute content that drives audience engagement and growth.
Sound editorial judgment, ensuring content meets high standards of accuracy, legality, and relevance.
Able to work in a team environment and collaborate on projects.
Detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a dynamic environment.
