We are looking for a skilled Lead Cloud Database Engineer to join the LCH SA Infrastructure & Cloud Team, which provides technical resources to Post Trade Business Services (a division of LSEG). This role is vital in designing, deploying, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available database systems. You will also serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all database-related subjects, manage a growing team of database engineers. Collaboration with development teams, operations, and partners will be crucial in ensuring efficient performance and availability of our critical environments.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
- Management of a growing team in charge of databases management.
- Implement and manage cloud-based database systems, ensuring secure and efficient access control.
- Develop, manage, and optimize database policies and procedures to ensure compliance with ANSSI standards and other security standards.
- Serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all database-related subjects, coordinating with various teams to address security concerns.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential weaknesses in database systems.
- Design, implement and regularly validate Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and recovery strategies for database platforms, ensuring high availability, data integrity, and compliance with defined RTO/RPO objectives.
- Manage database lifecycle operations, including patching, upgrades, replication, and migration activities, ensuring minimal service disruption, security compliance and operational resilience across cloud and on-premises environments
- Develop and maintain incident response plans to quickly address and mitigate security breaches related to databases.
- Work closely with IT and security teams to align database operations with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations and best practices.
- Provide mentorship to team members on database best practices and security measures.
- Maintain database services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
- Lead sustainable and efficient incident response for database-related issues.
- Scale database systems sustainably through automation, advocating for changes that improve reliability and security.
- Write highly optimized and accurate code for database solutions.
- Proactively build and apply relevant domain knowledge related to database workflows, policies, configurations, and constraints.
- Support essential database processes while ensuring high-quality standards are met
What you'll be doing:
- Assess, plan, design, and implement database infrastructure as highly available and scalable solutions to support critical applications and services.
- Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts using tools like Terraform and Ansible to automate the deployment and management of database resources.
- Apply ANSSI standards to secure database resources and perform regular audits to ensure compliance.
- Conduct capacity planning and troubleshooting of database applications, products, infrastructure, and services.
- Monitor and observe database applications and infrastructure.
- Leverage testing environments using industry practices for pre-testing changes and proof of concept.
- Fix and resolve database-related issues across cloud environments.
- Participate in cloud engineering tasks to manage and optimize infrastructure, including network resources, security measures, and automation.
- Participate in on-call rotation shifts.
You'll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 8 years of experience in managing and maintaining database infrastructure in regulated and/or highly available environments.
- Expertise in Oracle Enterprise, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases.
- Preferably certified in Oracle DBA
- Proven experience with database migration projects, including planning, execution, and troubleshooting.
- Advanced experience in cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google) for at least 3 years.
- Expertise in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and automation/configuration management tools (Ansible) for at least 3 years.
- Experience with VMware technology is advantageous
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.
- Experience operating in a regulated environment with specific security constraints (at least 2 years).
- Experience in systems monitoring and capacity management (at least 5 years).
- Adherence to applicable risk control frameworks, policies, and procedures.
