The Cooperative Grading Service, a trusted partnership between the USDA and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, plays a vital role in supporting the state’s fruit, vegetable, and peanut industries. By providing fair, consistent, and impartial grading services, we help producers and buyers confidently buy, sell, trade, and settle transactions across North Carolina.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with overseeing daily operations of the Good Agricultural Practices and Good Handling Practices Food Safety Audit Verification program for North Carolina under the authority of the United States Department of Agriculture. The incumbent will perform food safety audits across the state as a Quality Systems Auditor. The incumbent must have normal color vision to perform the job duties.

Recruitment Range: $35,596 - $55,000

• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with plant management, producers, shippers, receivers, co-workers, and others.

• Ability to work independently, analytically make sound decisions, use good judgement, and close attention to details.

• Ability to interpret and apply complex Federal guidelines and regulations.

• Must have 2 or more years of experience supervising and training.

• Knowledge of USDA’s GAP/GHP, Harmonized Food Safety procedures & auditing experience.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of closely related work experience including two years of experience in grading the commodities of the plant or station to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related work may include commodity grading, farming, quality control, working in a processing plant in the area of assignment, food service, grocery, and manufacturing.

Necessary Special Qualification:

Ability to obtain licensure by USDA for commodities grader

Possession of a valid state driver's license.
