POSITION SUMMARY
The Lawn Treatment Technician delivers Hickerson's lawn health program to residential and commercial properties. Working a set route, you'll apply fertilizer and weed, insect, and disease control treatments, spot problems early, and make sure every customer knows what was done and what comes next. This role rewards attention to detail, safe chemical handling, and a genuine interest in growing great turf. This position is Columbia based but will travel across our service region from COMO to Lake Ozark.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run a daily route of scheduled lawn treatments for residential and commercial clients
- Apply granular and liquid fertilizers, pre- and post-emergent weed control, insecticides, and fungicides per label and program specs
- Calibrate, mix, and load spray rigs and spreaders accurately
- Measure properties and treat at the correct rates
- Perform aeration, overseeding, and soil amendments (e.g., lime) as scheduled
- Identify turf weeds, insects, disease, and watering or drainage issues; recommend solutions
- Leave clear service notes and care instructions for every customer
- Complete accurate application records for Missouri compliance
- Post lawn signage/flags after applications as required
- Flag upsell opportunities and problem lawns to the Lawn Care Manager
- Inspect, clean, and maintain truck, spray equipment, and spreaders daily
- Follow PPE, spill response, and safe chemical storage procedures
- Other duties as assigned to meet business needs
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to obtain a Missouri Pesticide Technician license (Ornamental & Turf) within 45 days of hire — training provided
- Basic math for measurements, mix ratios, and calibration
- Comfortable using a phone or tablet for routing and service notes
- Dependable, self-directed, and comfortable working solo
Preferred
- 1+ year in lawn care, landscaping, or golf course maintenance
- Missouri Certified Commercial Applicator (Ornamental & Turf)
- Knowledge of cool-season turf (fescue, bluegrass) and common Mid-Missouri weeds and pests
- Customer service experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, and light rain
- Walk extensively — often several miles a day — on slopes and uneven terrain
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; push loaded spreaders
- Pull and manage long lengths of spray hose
- Bend, kneel, and stoop regularly
- Wear required PPE (gloves, eye protection, respirator when the label requires)
- Handle fertilizers and pesticides safely per label and training
