Working closely with stakeholders across New York, Tokyo, and other global locations, this individual will play a key role in launching and scaling the U.S. Commodities business.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role requiring expertise in commodities markets, end-to-end trade lifecycle management, operating model design, risk frameworks, and large-scale business implementation initiatives. As the platform matures, the role will evolve toward ongoing franchise management, business planning, and strategic growth initiatives supporting MUFG's Commodities business across the Americas.

Key Responsibilities

Commodities Platform Implementation & Business Transformation

  • Support the strategic implementation and launch of the Commodities platform in the United States.
  • Serve as a key U.S. representative for the global Commodities implementation program, ensuring alignment between global strategy and U.S. regulatory, operational, and business requirements.
  • Coordinate implementation efforts across Sales & Trading, Operations, Finance, Product Control, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Technology teams.
  • Partner with global project managers and business leaders to deliver business, technology, infrastructure, and operating model initiatives.
  • Drive business readiness activities and support regulatory commitments related to the Commodities platform rollout.
  • Identify project dependencies, risks, and execution challenges, and coordinate timely resolution with key stakeholders.
  • Support continual enhancement of the operating model to ensure scalability, efficiency, and alignment with strategic objectives.

Business Architecture, Risk & Controls

  • Act as a subject matter expert on commodities products, trading activities, trade lifecycle processes, risk management practices, and financial controls.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Risk, and Technology teams to implement front-to-back operating models supporting Commodities trading activities.
  • Provide expertise across trade capture, confirmations, settlements, lifecycle events, exception management, and operational workflows.
  • Support implementation of valuation governance, P&L attribution, financial controls, balance sheet management, and management reporting frameworks.
  • Establish and monitor key business performance, market risk, credit risk, liquidity, and capital metrics.
  • Partner with Market Risk and Credit Risk teams to oversee reporting, stress testing, counterparty exposure management, concentration limits, and capital utilization.
  • Evaluate and document operating models, risk frameworks, business processes, and industry best practices.
  • Support new product launches, infrastructure enhancements, and regulatory initiatives through business and operational impact analysis.
  • Promote a strong culture of governance, risk management, and controls while maintaining alignment with regulatory expectations and global standards.

Risk Management

  • Support the identification, monitoring, and management of risks across the business.
  • Ensure activities remain within the firm's risk appetite framework.
  • Escalate issues related to operational risk, compliance, regulatory requirements, and business controls as appropriate.
  • Protect and enhance the firm's reputation through sound risk management practices.

Franchise Growth & Business Development

  • Support the development of a scalable, client-focused Commodities platform.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across the organization to facilitate sustainable business growth and profitability.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen and expand the Commodities franchise in the Americas.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all internal policies, controls, compliance requirements, and operating procedures.
  • Promote a strong control environment and ethical business practices.
  • Support teams in understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities related to policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8-10 years of experience within Commodities, Global Markets, Product Control, Business Management, COO, Operations, Finance, or related functions.
  • Strong understanding of commodities products, markets, and trading activities.
  • Deep knowledge of front-to-back trade lifecycle processes and operational workflows.
  • Experience partnering with Product Control, Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams.
  • Proven experience supporting business launches, platform implementations, or strategic transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of valuation controls, P&L reporting, and financial governance.
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated trading environment.
  • Excellent project management, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional designation.
  • Experience supporting cross-border implementation programs involving global stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex initiatives within a front-office markets environment.
