Laboratory technologist

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provision of accurate, timely and cost-effective testing of patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in compliance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. carry out laboratory investigations as per established standards
2. Prompt, efficient and effective communication of the results to the concerned personnel
3. Maintaining confidential and complete documentation of all patient’s results
4. Maintaining cleanliness of the work
5. Improve skills by attending required continuing education opportunities
6. Participate in the facility’s Quality Improvement Program
7. Maintain warm, sensitive and cooperative relationships with patients, families, co-workers, department managers, administration and medical staff etc.
8. Participate in staff morning devotions
9. Assist in Carrying out the lab investigations on Sundays for Monday surgeries
10. To outsource the investigations that are not done here in kijabe hospital
11. Perform any other reasonable duty and responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary
12. In-charge of all quality activities in relation to this position as per the Hospital Standards.
13. Ensure compliance with all the requirements of the quality management system ( Safecare ).

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AT ENTRY

1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory 

2. Minimum two years of experience in laboratory work performing laboratory procedures

3. Working in a busy hospital environment is a critical advantage

Skills, Abilities, Special licenses or Certificate

1. Compassion: Empathy is necessary when working closely with patients who might be in pain or under emotional duress.

2. Attention to Detail: Performing tests will require exact measurements and a good eye for detail, or the results could be false.

3. Dexterity: Work with hands and will need skill to work with small vials, test tubes, and delicate lab equipment.

4. Stamina: Lab technicians work long days on their feet, sometimes hunched over a workstation for long periods of time.

5. Technical Skill: Need to understand complex lab machinery and computer programs used to conduct tests.

6. Integrity and a professional attitude

7. Ability to do detailed work and maintain a high level of accuracy

8. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
