Job Description & Summary

Job Overview

As a Functional Application Manager, lead and facilitate design workshops, assessments, and planning sessions, demonstrating strong leadership and project management experience. Primarily responsible for designing, building, configuring, testing, deploying and supporting SAP-based ERP solutions, with broad, hands-on strength across SAP S/4HANA Finance (FI) — General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting/Treasury, and Taxation — along with basic, working-level knowledge of Controlling (CO) sufficient to support FI-CO integration points, and FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulatory reporting expertise for utilities/energy sector engagements. Lead analysis and design in these areas in collaboration with the engagement/client finance team; manage teams, conduct structured testing with users, and drive automation of solutions. Ensure stabilization of the solution and deliver quality consistently, collaborate across multiple workstreams, develop cost-effective solutions that meet user requirements, progress quickly in a dynamic and complex environment, and be willing to travel.

Years of Experience

10-14 Years

Position Requirements

  • Extensive SAP S/4HANA Finance expert with solution design experience across the full FI stack, preferably with an accounts and finance background.
  • Lead a team of Finance specialists; facilitate and guide the implementation and support teams.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate design workshops, assessments, and planning sessions, demonstrating leadership experience in project management.
  • Lead dynamic, interactive requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders throughout the enterprise.
  • Strong, hands-on expertise across core SAP FI modules:
  • FI-GL (General Ledger) — New GL, document splitting, parallel ledgers/accounting principles, chart of accounts design, financial statement versions, and period-end closing activities.
  • FI-AR (Accounts Receivable) — customer master data, credit management, dunning, incoming payments, down payments, and customer-side intercompany processes.
  • FI-AP (Accounts Payable) — vendor master data, payment runs, payment terms, down payments, automatic/electronic payments, and vendor reconciliation.
  • Asset Accounting (FI-AA) — asset classes, depreciation areas, parallel valuation, asset acquisitions/retirements/transfers, and integration with GL and CO, including regulated utility plant and FERC asset classification where applicable.
  • Bank Accounting / Treasury integration — bank master data, electronic bank statement processing, cash management, and bank reconciliation.
  • Taxation — tax procedures, tax codes, withholding tax, and statutory/compliance reporting requirements.
  • Basic, working knowledge of Controlling — Cost Center Accounting (CO-CCA), Profit Center Accounting (CO-PCA), and Internal Orders — sufficient to support FI-CO integration points and cross-module postings; deep Product Costing or Material Ledger specialization is not required for this role.
  • Strong knowledge of FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulatory reporting for the utilities/energy industry, including FERC Form 1/2/6 preparation, regulatory chart of accounts mapping, and FERC account classification within SAP.
  • Hands-on experience configuring FERC-compliant Asset Accounting structures — Continuing Property Records (CPR), Allowance for Funds Used During Construction (AFUDC, both debt and equity components), Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) capitalization, retirement units, and regulatory versus book depreciation.
  • Understanding of the regulatory ledger/parallel ledger approach (New GL document splitting, or FI-SL) to maintain FERC regulatory books alongside US GAAP/IFRS books, including regulatory asset/liability (ASC 980) accounting.
  • Exposure to Public Utility industry-specific functionality, Work Order management integration (PM/PS) for capital project accounting, and minor/major retirement processing relevant to utility plant.
  • Experience supporting FERC audits and regulatory filings, including variance analysis between book and regulatory basis of accounting.
  • Mentor, coach and manage multiple teams and projects.
  • Proven experience in configuring, testing and supporting SAP Finance solutions across GL, AR, AP, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting and Taxation.
  • Participate in design discussions, providing expertise on the SAP S/4HANA Finance platform.
  • Work with business users to understand requirements and propose alternative design solutions across FI processes.
  • Develop a collaborative and cohesive team, working with a culture of a One Team mindset.
  • Hands-on experience in Finance and accounts, with the ability to translate accounting requirements into system configuration.
  • Hands-on experience across S/4HANA Finance features with ability to design, develop and customize solutions, including integration with other modules like MM/SD/PS/PP/PM/IM — particularly how procurement, sales, and production postings flow into FI.
  • Knowledge of CFIN, and understanding of the elimination of ETL tools to enable transactional-level matching in real time.
  • Understanding of AIF and field value mapping, centralized transaction processing, payments, intercompany reconciliation, and group consolidation using S/4HANA Group Reporting.
  • Working familiarity with the S/4HANA Intercompany Matching and Reconciliation (ICMR) tool, as well as a solid accounting and finance background.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting is an added advantage.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Hands-on knowledge across SAP S/4HANA Finance (GL, AR, AP, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting, Taxation), with basic working exposure to CO, ICMR & CFIN, and FERC regulatory reporting, to drive the project.
  • Understanding of different project methodologies, especially the Agile and Scrum frameworks.
  • Familiarity with utility/energy industry regulatory frameworks and reporting cycles (annual FERC filings, rate case support, and regulatory audits).

Preferred Skill

  • Hands-on experience in SAP S/4HANA Finance across all core FI sub-modules, with demonstrable depth in FERC regulatory reporting design, configuration and testing.
  • Familiar with onsite/offshore delivery models, with hands-on experience understanding system landscape environments (e.g., Dev/QA/Prod, transport management for FI/FERC configuration).
  • Familiar with Implementations/Support/Rollout/Training delivery models — including testing phases specific to FERC reporting (regulatory report validation, UAT, and cutover/deployment support).
  • Familiar with role matrix/role testing and able to guide technical team members.
  • Familiar with both Waterfall and Agile models of software development approaches.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ownership and commitment, flexible timings.
  • Expertise in JIRA, Agile delivery model.

Professional and Educational Background

  • Manager — 10-14 years of experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in SAP S/4HANA Finance, spanning GL, AR, AP, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting and Taxation, with a minimum of 3 end-to-end implementations.
  • Prior exposure to utility/energy sector engagements involving FERC regulatory reporting is a strong plus.
  • Any graduation degree, any post-graduation degree; CA/ICWA preferred.
