Description
Essential services provided to the airport including airport operations, maintenance of building and grounds, operations of a variety of equipment and tools, repair and maintenance of airport properties, and certified in aircraft rescue, firefighting operations, and emergency medical services.
Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and Emergency Services
Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) is a special category of firefighting that involves the response, hazard mitigation, evacuation and possible rescue of passengers and crew of an aircraft involved in (typically) an airport ground emergency.
• Must pass a 40 Hour ARFF Training course within six (6) months of hire.
• Must maintain advanced training in the application of firefighting foams, dry chemical and clean agents used to extinguish burning aviation fuel in and around an aircraft in. order to maintain a path for evacuating passengers to exit the fire hazard area.
• Must possess critical thinking skills.
• Current Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician certificate.
• Emergency Medical Technician certificate or ability to obtain by training within six (6) months of hire and national certification within one (1) year of hire.
• Participates in yearly live fire simulation training.
• Operates specialized firefighting equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Airport Operations
Provides support for all Airport and Airfield Operations.
• Daily inspection of all airport runways, taxi ways, lighting system, weather station, wildlife issues, fencing/gates and handles according to a schedule of shift expectations.
• Completes a daily weather observation and report as needed to back up ASOS system.
• Daily monitoring of all internal airport functions such as security system, lighting systems, plumbing, computer network, phone systems and remote communications devices.
• Conduct Badge challenges, alarm monitoring and security inspections.
• Summer operations includes mowing, weed whipping, brushing, grounds cleanup, landscaping, trimming, spreading or dumping materials, and ability to prioritize daily.
• Winter operations includes snowplowing in accordance with a Snow and Ice Control Plan.
• Responds to airport tenant requests for assistance regarding hangar buildings, hangar doors, environmental issues, etc.
• Assists in maintaining and/or troubleshooting the passenger loading bridge for airline flights.
• Helps to cover shifts as needed due to vacation or illness of other staff, or call-ins for weather or other urgent needs.
• Completes all scheduled training as required under F.A.R. Part 139.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Heavy Equipment/Maintenance
ARFF/Operations shall run and maintain all airport equipment.
• Operates, maintains and repairs a variety of equipment and tools such as: graders, dump trucks with attachments, sweepers, chainsaws, mowers, tractors, hand tools and other various types of equipment in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
• Procures service contracts with regional resources in the event maintenance cannot be conducted with internal resources.
• Operates powerful machinery such as runway snow plows and large grass mowers in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations expectations.
• Services equipment when possible including mechanical issues.
• Uses welding and/or fabricating skills when possible.
• Authorized to obtain urgent assistance due to critical equipment and systems failures.
• Manages equipment on a preventative maintenance schedule in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Wildlife Control
Knowledge in control of wildlife that may penetrate airport perimeter
• Inspects airport property for any signs of wildlife encroachment and mitigates wildlife issues in accordance with a Wildlife Hazard Mitigation Plan.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Building Systems Maintenance/Janitorial
Provides maintenance/janitorial services to the airport on a daily basis
• Performs janitorial tasks such as cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, emptying garbage.
• Able to provide minor repair work on electrical, plumbing, cabling, communication, security, and fire alarm systems.
• Able to provide minor repair on HVAC systems including boiler system.
• Stocks supplies for building maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.
Administration
Provides administration and tracking
• Possess intermediate computer skills; comfortable with Windows operating system, file management and collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams) for coordination and daily operations. Specific airport applications will be trained.
• Ensures all training records are current and up to date meeting FAA standards.
• Orders materials and parts as needed within $1000 limit.
• Responsible for management of Airport in the absence of airport administration and makes appropriate calls to airport administration in times of emergency or need.
• Performs other duties as assigned relevant to the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*Per the Union contract, new employees start at $31.91 per hour and progress to the max wage following their first year of employment.

• Class B Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements

• Emergency Medical Technician certification or ability to pass EMT Certification according to national standards within one (1) year of hire
• Ability to obtain Certified Weather Observer status within 6 months of employment
• 3 years' experience in operating and maintaining vehicles, light and heavy equipment
• Troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
• Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT Physical
• Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check and/or and FBI Criminal History Records Check
