GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Senior Director of Nursing for PERI-NATAL SERVICES will provide leadership, direction, guidance and support of clinical operations within the DHS NICUs in the Corpus Christi Market, all DHS High Risk Clinics, WIC Clinics and Lactation Services in Corpus Christi, to ensure compliance with established rules, regulations, standards of care as well as organizational goals and objectives to achieve desired clinical, operational, quality, safety and financial outcomes. Provides oversight and coordination of APRN staffing for facilities with coverage agreements for APRNs for all DHS contracted NICUs, including DCH-CC, NCC & DCH-RGV. The senior director is an administrative role.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

• Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.

• Assists the service line leaders, under his/her leadership in determining departmental plans and objectives ensuring that they are aligned with the hospital’s strategic plan and mission by providing long range vision and direction. Approves departmental plans and objectives.

• Oversees the development and implementation of department budgets and ensure compliance of budgets for responsible departments.

• Accountable for the overall performance of responsible departments.

• Oversees the development of new programs and policies and procedures for responsible departments.

• Conducts annual evaluations of service line leaders and direct reports ensuring that their performance conforms to performance guidelines and that they satisfactorily accomplish plans and objectives and operate departments within budgetary guidelines.

• Serves as a coach and mentor for the department leaders and direct reports under his/her leadership to model leaderships kills, offer guidance and provide training as necessary in areas of human resources.

• Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

• Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.

• Develops and maintains positive relationships with key patients, physicians, staff and external organizations.

• Responsible for other duties as assigned.

• Works Collaboratively with business unit leadership to ensure care coordination of needs of the organization are being met.

• Must have reliable transportation.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Effectively administers performance management expectations for the service line leaders including:

• Coaching for success

- goal setting & consistent monitoring of metrics, milestones and goal achievements

• Strong knowledge of and effectiveness in administering hospital policies and procedures.

• Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure.

 

Perinatal-Specific Responsibilities

• Provides 24-hour leadership accountability for the delivery of safe, high-quality maternal and newborn care within assigned perinatal services.

• Collaborates with the Neonatal Medical Director, Neonatal Program Manager, Director of Perinatal Care Alliance, nursing leadership, obstetric, anesthesia, neonatal, pediatric, and other interdisciplinary providers to promote optimal maternal and newborn outcomes.

• Ensures compliance with Texas Levels of Neonatal Care designation requirements and maintains ongoing readiness for designation and regulatory surveys.

• Participates in regional and state maternal/perinatal initiatives as appropriate.

• Oversees staff orientation, education, competency validation, simulation, and professional development appropriate to assigned perinatal services.

• Monitors quality, safety, patient experience, staffing, productivity, employee engagement, and other key performance indicators and implements improvement plans as needed.

• Ensures clinical policies, standards of care, equipment, staffing resources, and competencies support safe and effective newborn care.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Advanced degree required, such as MSN, MBA, MHA, DNP or APRN (NNP or CNS in Peri-natal Services). Other advanced applicable degree may be considered

• Minimum 10-years’ experience in perinatal services with at least four years of progressive nursing leadership experience at the director level or higher in a level III or IV NICU or Peri-Natal related department or service.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas

• Must have active unrestricted driver’s license

• National certification in at least one of the clinical areas noted above – required
