The City of Jersey City is seeking a qualified Social Service Technician for the Municipal Court. Reporting to the Program Manager and Resource Coordinator, the Social Service Technician is responsible for providing thorough assessments and comprehensive case management for
young adult participant-defendants who come through the court.Job Duties:

• Providing comprehensive case management for young adults coming through the court, with a in order to address issues such as substance abuse, employment, health, family and housing.
• Conducting post-arraignment screening and tracking of participant-defendants to improve program outcomes.
• Providing assessment of service and treatment needs.
• Managing intake procedures, ensuring that participant-defendants are engaged, processed and assigned, and receiving appropriate and needed services.
• Maintaining participant records and files.
• Managing and monitoring compliance with court appointed social service mandates.
• Preparing and providing updates to the court on client progress with detailed case information.
• Facilitating coordinated service delivery from on-and off-site agencies.
• Developing and maintaining referral and placement resources and serving as an intermediary between court, community service organizations, and court-based social services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:  At one to two years of experience in the field of social services (ie. mental health,
substance abuse treatment) preferred.
Experience working with young adult (18-24) population preferred.

• Knowledge of physical and organizational aspects of the community
• Knowledge of social and economic conditions in the community.
• Knowledge of welfare practices.
• Ability to establish relationships of mutual trust and respect with clients, 
• especially with disadvantaged societal groups of varying ethnicities and 
• social backgrounds.
• Ability to interpret and clarify agency policies.
• Ability to meet and work with agency staff and members of the community.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and make basic recommendations.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently.  
• Ability to maintain essential records and files.

This is a Civil Service Job and you must eventually pass and qualify for the applicable Civil Service title.
