Job Description

The Lab Support Specialist supports the daily operation and improvement of a large, multi-vendor operational technology research lab in the Milwaukee area. The lab supports device research, integration development, product testing, proof-of-concept work, and customer demonstrations.

You will work across the physical infrastructure behind that work, including industrial devices, servers, storage, and lab networks. It also spans the virtual infrastructure, encompassing hypervisors, backups, software platforms, licensing, asset inventory, procurement, and supporting services. The support specialist will take ownership of routine lab operations and projects while working with senior staff, vendors, product teams, and internal IT when an issue requires deeper specialization or business approval. You will report to the Team Lead, Device & Integration Research, and work onsite in Milwaukee, WI.

Your Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial systems, servers, storage, virtualization platforms, backups, and network infrastructure.
• Administer Linux and Windows environments, including Active Directory, virtualization, backup/recovery, and user services.
• Configure and support networking technologies such as VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, and virtual networks.
• Deploy and maintain engineering workstations, test environments, virtual appliances, and demonstration systems.
• Manage industrial devices, firmware updates, engineering software, and hardware/software compatibility.
• Procure, inventory, and maintain hardware, software, licenses, warranties, support agreements, and vendor relationships.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including asset records, network diagrams, procedures, and recovery plans.
• Support laboratory operations through equipment deployment, rack and infrastructure maintenance, shipping/receiving, and lifecycle management.
• Improve operational efficiency through automation, scripting, standardization, and process documentation.
• Be a technical resource for lab users while collaborating with IT, security, facilities, purchasing, and external vendors.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Typically requires 2+ years of hands-on experience in systems, network, infrastructure, industrial automation, or lab support environments.
• Strong technical expertise in multiple areas, including Windows/Linux administration, virtualization, networking, backup and recovery, industrial automation, or lab operations.
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or equivalent), Windows Server and Linux administration, and core networking technologies.
• Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, OT protocols, and engineering software platforms.
• Proven troubleshooting, documentation, asset management, and technical support skills.
• Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, software deployment, licensing, vendor management, and inventory control.
• Proficiency with scripting, automation, APIs, and AI-assisted development tools, with a disciplined approach to testing, security, and change management.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Git, or similar collaboration tools.
• Experience supporting physical infrastructure, including servers, racks, cabling, power systems, UPSs, and low-voltage electrical components.
