Description

Quality Team Manager – Battery Pack Assembly

Location: Jeffersonville, IN (Remote to start, then On-site)

About Sustainable Talent

At Sustainable Talent, we build high-performing teams that match our clients' goals and values. We are partnering with a leading global automotive manufacturer to staff a brand-new battery pack assembly plant in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This is a rare chance to help build a greenfield operation from the ground up.

The Opportunity

As Quality Team Manager, you will lead the Quality organization for a new Battery Pack Assembly facility from launch through steady-state production. You will establish and champion the plant’s Quality Operating System (QOS) and serve as a key member of the Plant Operating Committee, driving quality strategy, standards, and performance.

You will oversee incoming and supplier quality, lead quality activities for new model launches, and build a strong quality culture through the mentoring and development of plant personnel. Success in this role requires close partnership with plant leadership, cross-functional teams, Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L), and suppliers to drive customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

The role will start remotely, with the expectation that the candidate will later transition to onsite work in Jeffersonville, Indiana. During construction, you may attend onsite meetings or work from a temporary onsite office.

What You'll Do

Quality Operating System & Plant Leadership

  • Champion the QOS as a member of the Plant Operating Committee, keeping the Operations Committee Manager informed on quality status
  • Develop, mentor and train plant personnel on QOS principles and standard quality tools
  • Lead quality goal-setting and policy deployment for the plant
  • Run the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly quality review cadence
  • Fully deploy QOS procedures at the new site and keep them stable through launch and change
  • Manage direct and indirect staffing in the Quality department
  • Build communication processes that support cross-functional problem-solving teams and sister plants

Inspection, Compliance & Measurement

  • Manage inspection processes, and keep measurement systems and mandatory process requirements current based on customer and warranty feedback
  • Make sure regulatory, safety and inspection audits and critical-function reviews are completed and reported, to prevent field actions and recalls
  • Own recall-prevention results and make sure containment actions are in place for identified issues

Incoming & Supplier Quality

  • Lead incoming quality activity and the supplier quality tracking system
  • Support problem-solving teams on supplier quality concerns
  • Escalate known supplier issues to future-program planners to prevent repeat customer concerns
  • Monitor supplier part quality and share real-time feedback with production
  • Coordinate supplier quality requirements for on-site modifications and production concerns
  • Co-chair monthly incoming quality meetings
  • Contain suspect components until certified stock arrives
  • Work with materials and logistics on defective material, and lead containment and corrective actions with suppliers
  • Review supplier 8D reports and accept or reject them based on content
  • Publish incoming quality data, and share dealer and customer feedback on supplier quality with the right teams
  • Manage recovery of plant costs caused by supplier quality issues

New Model Launch

  • Serve as the plant's quality lead for new model launches, including milestone and scorecard reviews and control plan activities

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years in an automotive industry quality function
  • Flexibility to work standard, operating and rotational schedules, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree
  • Quality engineering background
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Working knowledge of automotive quality data, warranty and audit systems
  • Strong statistical background and knowledge of production and quality operating systems
  • Proven ability to lead, empower and develop people
  • Strong conflict management, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • A collaborative style that delivers results through others
  • Outstanding interpersonal, team-building and communication skills
