Position Overview

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join an established manufacturing operation in Orangeburg, SC. This position plays a key role in supporting production, improving manufacturing processes, increasing equipment utilization, reducing costs, and resolving technical challenges on the plant floor.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with production, quality, maintenance, engineering, and technical teams to identify opportunities for improvement and implement practical solutions. The ideal candidate brings a strong engineering foundation, hands-on manufacturing experience, and the ability to analyze processes from both a productivity and quality perspective.

Experience within wire and cable manufacturing, plastics/polymer processing, wire drawing, stranding, cabling, or a related medium/heavy manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering and technical support to manufacturing operations.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase productivity, equipment utilization, quality, and overall manufacturing efficiency.

  • Support process development, product development, machine characterization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Troubleshoot production and process issues in collaboration with internal engineering, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and customer technical personnel.

  • Develop and execute experiments to evaluate manufacturing processes, materials, equipment, and process improvements.

  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other analytical methods to monitor and improve manufacturing performance.

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste reduction, and quality-cost improvement.

  • Evaluate manufacturing capabilities, process limitations, and equipment performance.

  • Support development and implementation of labor standards and manufacturing methods.

  • Assist with component, tooling, and manufacturing-related design activities.

  • Utilize CAD and other engineering tools to support equipment, tooling, component, and product requirements.

  • Maintain a strong focus on plant safety, environmental compliance, and the impact of manufacturing processes on facility operations.

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, specifications, and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline preferred.

  • Candidates with significant practical engineering experience in medium or heavy manufacturing may also be considered.

  • Manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production engineering experience within an industrial environment.

  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of process improvement, continuous improvement, and SPC methodologies.

  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment, unit operations, process capabilities, and limitations.

  • Knowledge of metrology concepts and manufacturing measurement systems.

  • Ability to interpret and work with manufacturing and engineering data in both digital and traditional formats.

  • Working knowledge of industrial processes and engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, lubrication, metallurgy, and strength of materials.

  • Experience with CAD, tooling design, component design, or manufacturing design preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams.

Highly Desired Industry Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is especially valuable:

  • Wire and cable manufacturing

  • Wire drawing, stranding, or cabling

  • Extrusion or polymer processing

  • Thermoplastics and thermosets

  • Polyolefinic or elastomeric materials

  • Medium or heavy industrial manufacturing

  • Cable construction and design

  • Industrial manufacturing specifications and standards

Knowledge of applicable standards such as IEEE, UL, AEIC, NEC, ASTM, and ICEA is a plus. Familiarity with ISO 9000/Quality Management Systems and nuclear qualification requirements such as 10 CFR Part 50 is also beneficial.

What We're Looking For

This opportunity is well suited for an engineer who enjoys being close to manufacturing operations rather than working exclusively behind a desk. The successful candidate will be comfortable analyzing production problems, working directly with plant personnel, improving processes, and taking ownership of projects that have measurable impacts on safety, quality, productivity, and cost.

We are looking for someone who can combine technical engineering knowledge with practical manufacturing problem-solving and effectively move projects from analysis through implementation.
