About the role

We are looking for Operator/Maintainers to help the Mine Operations team deliver safe and efficient production. In this role, you’ll operate and care for heavy equipment, help achieve production targets and contribute to team performance.  Whether you already have relevant experience or are looking to build your career in mining, this is an opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to safe, reliable operations at IOC.

What you’ll be doing

 Reporting to the Operations Supervisor and working within Mine Operations team at the Iron Ore Company of Canada, you will:

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently to support Load and Haul production targets.
  • Complete equipment checks and basic operator maintenance to keep equipment ready for safe use.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, follow IOC safety standards and procedures, and take action when unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Follow Iron Ore Company of Canada safety standards, procedures and expected behaviours on every shift.
  • Communicate safety, equipment and process concerns, and provide clear feedback on equipment performance and operating conditions.

  • Contribute practical ideas and participate in improvements that address recurring issues in the work area.

 

About you

We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply – if you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.

Required for Success

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent, relevant post-secondary training such as a Heavy Equipment Operator course, or equivalent demonstrated practical experience.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour, seven-days-on, seven-days-off rotating schedule that includes day and night shifts.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Helpful for Success

  • A Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment or working in a mining, processing or other safety-critical industrial environment.

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles.
