JOB SUMMARY

Job Profile Summary

This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise observability solutions across infrastructure, applications, cloud platforms, services, and operational technology environments. The position leads efforts to improve monitoring, telemetry, alerting, dashboards, automation, and service health visibility to support operational excellence and faster issue detection. The role partners with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, network, and operations teams to identify observability gaps, resolve complex issues, and define monitoring requirements for new and existing technologies. In addition, the position provides technical leadership through mentoring, documentation, standards development, and continuous improvement of observability practices.


This position may be filled as either an Systems Analyst II or Systems Analyst III. The level offered will be determined at the time of hire based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and demonstrated capabilities.


Required Qualifications 

  • 5–8+ years of experience in enterprise IT environments with a primary focus on observability, monitoring strategy, telemetry, and operational visibility. 
  • Proficiency in at least two enterprise observability or monitoring platforms, such as Dynatrace, Grafana, Microsoft SCOM, OpsView, Venafi, or equivalent tools. 
  • Experience with observability automation, scripting such as PowerShell or Python, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), and API-based integrations across infrastructure, applications, and services. 
  • Strong understanding of metrics, logs, traces, events, system performance, and event management concepts. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical observability initiatives and mentor staff in a collaborative team environment. 
  • Experience developing dashboards, alerts, service health views, and KPIs aligned to business, application, and operational needs. 
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, incident management, change management, and CMDB integration is preferred. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting observability in hybrid, segmented, or air-gapped domains. 
  • Background in infrastructure, networking, storage, cloud, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or observability domains. 
  • Experience monitoring SCADA systems, operational technology, or other critical operational environments. 
  • Exposure to enterprise ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, CMDB relationships, service mapping, and operational support workflows. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

  • Design, implement, and optimize proactive observability solutions across infrastructure, applications, services, cloud platforms, and operational technology environments. 
  • Improve alerting, event correlation, telemetry collection, dashboards, and service health views to support operational excellence and faster issue detection. 
  • Partner with infrastructure, application support, cybersecurity, network, and operations teams to ensure visibility across critical systems and services. 
  • Analyze complex incidents and recurring problems, identify observability gaps, and coordinate the appropriate personnel to troubleshoot and resolve issues. 
  • Provide consultative support on monitoring and observability design for internal teams, projects, and new technology initiatives. 
  • Perform root cause analysis on resolved problems and design proactive monitoring, alerting, or automation improvements to prevent recurrence. 
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level monitoring or observability specialists in technical growth, standards adoption, and project execution. 
  • Review configurations, dashboards, alerts, integrations, and automation developed by team members to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with observability standards. 
  • Lead knowledge-sharing efforts and create internal documentation, runbooks, standards, and SOPs for observability practices. 
  • Complete assigned tasks to support approved application, infrastructure, and observability-related change controls. 
  • Collaborate with IT personnel on technology and support issues, providing proactive and timely communication on monitoring health, gaps, and remediation progress. 
  • Consult with application and infrastructure teams on new initiatives and define the monitoring, telemetry, dashboarding, and alerting impacts required for successful support. 
  • Communicate effectively through written updates, technical documentation, presentations, and cross-team discussions. 
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple observability priorities and operational needs. 
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in observability platforms, telemetry practices, infrastructure technologies, security considerations, and governance requirements. 

Work Experience 

  • Significant experience with enterprise observability, monitoring platforms, and current data center technologies. 
  • Experience implementing, supporting, or integrating observability capabilities for: 
  • Infrastructure hardware and platform configuration 
  • IP networking and network telemetry 
  • Windows Server, Unix, or Linux operating systems 
  • Shared storage technologies 
  • Virtualization technologies 
  • Event monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and data collection techniques 
  • Public cloud technologies and cloud-native monitoring patterns 
  • Proven track record of mentoring, influencing, and facilitating discussions across a wide range of teams and technologies. 
  • Training and experience related to: 
  • Operating systems software 
  • Computer hardware 
  • Networking 
  • Communications 
  • Security administration 
  • Observability tools, telemetry standards, dashboarding, alerting, and automation 
  • Experience identifying, researching, and analyzing core technology problems and performing root cause analysis using observability data. 
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting dashboards, event logs, telemetry data, system alerts, error logs, support documentation, and technical correspondence. 
  • Experience researching, preparing, and composing operating procedures, observability standards, documentation, reports, and correspondence. 
  • Experience interacting with customers, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams to define monitoring requirements and improve operational visibility. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to analyze observability data, identify patterns, and translate findings into actionable improvements. 
  • Ability to interact, advise, guide, train, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Ability to conduct technical discussions, present observability recommendations, and exchange information clearly across support, engineering, and leadership audiences. 
  • Ability to balance operational support needs with long-term observability strategy, standardization, and continuous improvement.
