Responsible for leading the planning, supervision, and execution of all agronomic operations for the golf course and surrounding landscaped areas, ensuring optimal playing conditions and environmental sustainability. This position leads multidisciplinary teams and coordinates with other departments to align agronomic strategies with the club’s standards and member expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Agronomic and Course Management:

• Lead the development and implementation of the master maintenance plan for the golf course and landscaped areas.
• Oversee turfgrass growth, health, and nutrition using the latest agronomic and soil science principles.
• Coordinate aeration, fertilization, irrigation, pest control, and other cultural practices.
• Ensure greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers are maintained in optimal conditions year-round.

Irrigation and Sustainability Management:

• Monitor irrigation system programming, efficiency, and maintenance.
• Implement sustainable practices in the use of water, fertilizers, and chemicals.
• Design and execute water conservation strategies and minimize environmental impact.

Team Supervision and Talent Development:

• Manage the entire maintenance team, including superintendents, assistants, irrigators, mechanics, and groundskeepers.
• Lead training, development, and performance evaluation processes to ensure high productivity and motivation.
• Foster a culture of safety, order, and mutual respect within the team.

Budgeting and Resource Management:

• Develop and manage the agronomy department’s budget.
• Forecast expenses and investments, and oversee procurement of supplies, machinery, and technologies.
• Evaluate vendors, manage contracts, and ensure optimal use of resources.

Interdepartmental Coordination:

• Coordinate with Golf Operations, Construction, Landscaping, and General Management teams to align goals and schedules.
• Participate in strategic meetings and provide technical reports to the executive team.
• Responsibly use the company's fixed assets and assigned equipment, ensuring their correct use and conservation.
• Any other activity assigned by your direct supervisor or general manager that helps achieve department and project goals.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES, and/ or SKILLS

• Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in golf course maintenance.
• Extensive knowledge in turf management, irrigation systems, fertilization, and specialized machinery.
• Proven experience managing budgets, technical reports, and personnel.
• Proficiency in agronomic technologies (GIS, weather stations, irrigation software, etc.).

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Soil Science, or related field.
• Preferred: Master’s degree or specialized certification in golf course or sports turf management.

HEALTH AND SAFETY NEEDS

• Mixed indoor and outdoor work.
• Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Ability to lift objects up to 12 kg.
• Regular use of personal protective equipment.
• Periods of computer-based work in office settings.
