Purpose:

• Under Automation Manager supervision, the technician provides support to the Engineering and automation projects/programs

• The Principal Digital Technician at Johnson & Johnson will play a key role in supporting engineering teams in the development, deployment, and optimization of smart manufacturing technologies. This position focuses on enabling engineers to implement intelligent automation, digital and advanced analytics solutions by providing hands-on technical support, system integration expertise, and process reliability insights.

• The technician will actively contribute to changing management efforts, ensuring smooth transitions during technology introduction and process improvements. It is expected to support in validation activities by assisting in protocol execution, data collection, and system qualification. Additionally, the role includes maintaining accurate and compliant documentation to meet regulatory, quality, and operational standards.

You will be responsible for:

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

• Monitors implemented automation solutions through daily support in production.

• Provides support in the execution of engineering validations and new technologies.

• Manages change management with production areas.

• Collects customer feedback for the development of new technologies and processes.

• Reports to the automation manager about any irregularities found in the implemented processes and follows up on the effectiveness of the solutions.

• Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.

• Provide advanced technical support for digitalization and intelligent automation initiatives across manufacturing, engineering and administrative functions.

• Collaborate with engineers to design, test, implement and sustain automated systems and digital solutions, including hardware and software.

• Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, or equipment.

• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on automated equipment and digital systems.

• Lead and mentor technicians in technical tasks and continuous improvement projects.

• Support data collection and analysis for process optimization and predictive analysis.

• Participate in cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for digital transformation initiatives.

• Support change management initiatives by preparing documentation, training materials, and coordinating stakeholder communications.

• Train associates on new technologies and digital tools as part of change management efforts.

• Assist in the execution of validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ), including data logging, reporting, and deviation tracking.

• Maintain and update technical documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and system configuration records.

• Train and mentor collaborators on new technologies and digital tools implementation.

• Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and Johnson & Johnson quality standards

• Under minimal supervision, works on complex assignments by nature, requiring judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills, such as executing software protocols and qualifying process performance (OPQ).

• Leads the implementation of automated solutions in production areas, providing technical support and acting as a link between the technical approach and the production team with a focus on manufacturing.

• Provides advice to production associates regarding the technologies implemented by the automation group.

• Shares project or activity progress updates with area or project leaders.

• Supports the development and preparation of training materials for new technologies and processes.

• Generates improvement ideas and prototypes them to collaborate with the Automation Engineer on developing proof-of-concept tests.

• Develops and analyzes graphs, tables, diagrams, drawings, and presentations

• Acts as the technical contact point with suppliers to support project leaders in collecting technical materials and samples for the development of automated solutions.

• Basic knowledge and prior implementation of emergent technologies and their integration, such as Big Data, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin, Robotic Process Automation, Cloud Computing, IoT, Business Intelligence, Virtual Reality, etc.

• Proficiency in data analytics tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, or similar.

• Familiarity with software development lifecycle.

• Basic hands-on experience with data visualization tools.

• Understanding data governance, data integration, and data quality standards.

• Strong proficiency in validation protocols for digital systems, including software and data platforms.

• Strong skills in technical writing to create and maintain documentation.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Applications, e.g., Excel and Power Point. Ability to influence adoption of digital tools and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• Proven ability to collaborate with engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to optimize digital solutions and troubleshoot real-time data issues.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.

• Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or Process Excellence methodologies is a plus.

• Responsible for communicating business-related issues or opportunities to next management level

• Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.

• Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

Qualifications / Requirements:

• A minimum high school diploma or equivalent technical degree is required.

• 6 to 8 years of industry experience or currently in the final semester of a university degree.

• Preferably with proficiency in English.

• Proficient in the use of various software types to create presentations in PowerPoint/PDF formats.

• Certification or training in change management.

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and/or Six Sigma is expected.

• Knowledge and/or previous experience in manufacturing processes Or a graduate of a bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering (Preferred)

• Experience in healthcare or highly regulated industry preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures.

• Knowledge and/or previous experience in manufacturing processes.

• Preferably have knowledge in the medical products industry and/or in the Engineering or Lean

• Skilled in using software packages (Microsoft Office, CAD, Minitab, etc.).
