Reporting directly to the Operation Supervisors, The Tank Farm Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the facilities Tank Farm and tanker off-loading/loading circuit while doing their part to ensure the Toronto facility maintains environmental compliance. The successful candidate will apply previous experience obtained from within a similar industrial sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active participant in GFL Environmental, Health & Safety Program.
  • Comply with Corporate and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain a professional report with customers and drivers. 
  • Perform and complete shift and equipment checklists.
  • Perform and complete daily housekeeping duties in designated circuit.
  • Cut samples of inbound, outbound bulk loads and individual tanks within the tank farm as instructed.
  • Off-load and load bulk liquid industrial wastewater into the appropriate tanks and or tankers as instructed.
  • Perform compatibility tests on containerized wastes in preparation for bulking over products.
  • Process containerized waste according to compatibility test results and lab instruction.
  • Perform minor maintenance, including lubrication, operating adjustments, cleaning & painting of equipment.
  • Work independently, complete daily tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to processes and systems.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by management or the shift lead-hand.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Previous Tank Farm experience in an industrial environment is preferred.
  • Prior forklift experience is required.
  • Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg. 347/558, TDG, etc.) is an asset.
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly shifting priorities, and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to provide, receive, and fulfil clear, concise direction to assure appropriate treatments are applied.
  • Sound ability to assess risks related to mixing chemical products.
  • Proven communication (written / verbal).
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Mechanically inclined, comfortable with using hand tools.
  • This position is performed primarily in an outdoor setting while exposed to the ambient weather conditions.
  • Standing, for a long period will be required, and you must have the ability and dexterity to climb ladders onto trucks to cut samples, walk between the laboratory and thThis position will operate on the afternoon shift (1500hrs-2300hrs) in an industrial setting that operates 24 hours per day, 5 days per week.
