About the Role
The Dishwasher / Prep Team Member supports daily back-of-house operations by cleaning and sanitizing tableware, cookware, utensils, kitchen equipment, and assigned restaurant areas.
This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and properly stocked dish area while ensuring the kitchen and dining room have the clean supplies needed for smooth restaurant operations. Team members may also assist with basic food preparation, cleaning, stocking, and other back-of-house responsibilities as assigned.
Position Qualifications and Requirements
- No previous restaurant experience required.
- Ability to follow cleaning, sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen team members and management.
- Pleasant, polite manner and a neat, clean appearance.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to successfully complete a background check, when applicable, in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Essential Functions
Safety, Sanitation and Cleanliness
- Follow health department requirements and company standards for sanitation, chemical use, personal cleanliness, handwashing, and workplace safety.
- Safely use dishwashing equipment, cleaning tools, chemicals, detergents, and sanitation products.
- Monitor dish-machine temperatures and chemical levels to help ensure proper washing and sanitizing cycles.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dish room throughout the shift.
- Immediately report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, chemical concerns, or maintenance needs to management.
- Follow required uniform and safety standards, including non-slip footwear and other required protective equipment.
Dishwashing and Kitchen Support
- Load, operate, and unload the commercial dish machine safely and efficiently.
- Wash, sanitize, dry, organize, and properly store tableware, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware, cookware, utensils, and kitchen supplies for the dining room and kitchen.
- Handle tableware and equipment carefully to help prevent breakage, damage, and loss.
- Maintain sufficient levels of dish detergent, chemicals, and cleaning supplies and notify management when supplies are running low.
- Assist with basic food preparation, stocking, and kitchen support duties when trained and assigned.
Cleaning and Restaurant Operations
- Clean and sanitize food preparation, production, storage, and dishwashing areas as assigned.
- Remove trash, recycling, and cardboard and transport them to designated disposal areas.
- Maintain the cleanliness of floors, sinks, shelves, walls, drains, equipment, and trash receptacles in assigned areas.
- Assist with cleaning restrooms, dining-room floors, parking areas, dumpster areas, and other restaurant spaces as assigned.
- Complete assigned opening, closing, cleaning, stocking, and end-of-shift responsibilities.
- Support teammates as needed to maintain smooth and efficient restaurant operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
What to Expect
This is a hands-on, fast-paced back-of-house position in a breakfast and lunch restaurant. Dishwasher / Prep Team Members work in and around the dish room and kitchen, where conditions may be hot, wet, humid, and loud.
The role requires continuous attention to cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and service readiness. Hours vary based on team member status, availability, scheduling needs, and the needs of the restaurant. Weekend availability is required.

Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Perform frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand and wrist movements.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull products, cookware, equipment, trash, and supplies weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Work for extended periods in hot, wet, humid, and loud kitchen conditions.
- Work with and around hot water, steam, commercial dish machines, kitchen equipment, cleaning tools, sanitation chemicals, and slippery surfaces.
- Perform back-of-house restaurant functions and support restaurant-level operations as needed.
- Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
