The team is committed to high-quality service, teamwork, innovation, and responsible stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

This position plays a key role in managing the city’s water allocations for parks and public spaces. Reporting to the Irrigation Systems Supervisor, the Specialist collects and maintains water-use data, monitors allocations, analyzes trends, and develops meaningful reports to support operational decision-making. The role also identifies potential issues, researches solutions, collaborates with internal partners, and supports the implementation of improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing monthly water-use reports and supporting field assessments to ensure compliance with Arizona Department of Water Resources regulations.
  • Monitoring the centralized irrigation control system and flagging malfunctioning equipment across parks, medians, and City buildings.
  • Communicating repair needs to appropriate staff and assisting with hands-on troubleshooting and hardware fixes.
  • Serving as a liaison with information systems to resolve irrigation-related software and hardware issues.
  • Providing lead expertise and occasional supervision for a small work crew during operational projects.
  • Supporting contract management tasks, including reviewing service performance, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Providing irrigation software support by maintaining system functionality, assisting staff with program use, and ensuring accurate system data and settings.
  • Performing advanced troubleshooting of irrigation components, communication systems, and water-management technology.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with strong data-management and problem-solving abilities. They are comfortable learning and implementing technology, collaborating across departments, and translating data into clear, actionable solutions. Above all, they take pride in their work, understand the importance of responsible water management, and are committed to providing Simply Better Service for a World-Class Community.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity.  The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $34.22/hour.
