The Assistant Receiving Clerk – supports daily mailroom and central receiving operations. Working under the direction of the Mail Services Receiving Clerk and mail center supervisor, this role focuses on retrieving, logging, inspecting, sorting, and distributing inbound freight, packages and mail across campus facilities and departments in an efficient and accurate manner.

Duties/Responsibilities

Mail & Package Logistics (40%)

  • Retrieve inbound mail and packages from the US Post Office on a daily schedule.

  • Transport mail, accountable items, and packages between the Post Office and Central Mail Services.

  • Deliver mail, packages and expedited shipments to departments, offices and pick up locations.

  • Collect outgoing mail, parcels, and interoffice correspondence from campus locations.

Receiving, Processing & Inventory Control (40%)

  • Scan, log and track incoming parcels to maintain chain of custody records.

  • Process shipments within the mailroom tracking system.

  • Sort mail and packages by departments, building or delivery route.

  • Prepare items for efficient distribution, delivery or customer pickup.

Safety, Equipment & Compliance (20%)

  • Operate material handling equipment safely, including package carts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks.

  • Maintain a clean, organized and secure receiving and mail processing center.

  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs.

  • Follow university transportation policies and safe driving practices.

  • Ensure secure handling and transport of mail and packages throughout the delivery process. 

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or current student status

  • Experience in mailroom, receiving, warehouse, or shipping operations preferred.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Drivers License

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  •  Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift packages (typically up to 70 lbs) throughout the shift.

  • Precision in checking tracking numbers, recipient names, and department addresses.

  • Comfort using package logging software, barcode scanners, and basic web application tools.

  • Strong customer service skills and dependability in handling sensitive or time-critical shipments.

Compensation Pay Range

$17.00/Hour
