About the role:
Fairstone Financial Inc., a subsidiary of Fairstone Bank of Canada, and affiliate of Home Trust is looking for a paralegal or law clerk with relevant experience in corporate/commercial, entity governance, licensing and litigation management gained in the banking or other regulated industry. You will be a key member of a dynamic in-house legal team, working directly with colleagues to grow the business while ensuring the legal and regulatory risk is mitigated and managed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assisting in preparation of corporate and regulatory license filings, both at the provincial and federal levels;
Organizing, tracking, monitoring and preparing reports on litigation;
Handling administrative matters as needed, including the management of legal notices;
Conducting (i) legal research; and (ii) providing operational legal support, under the supervision of in-house counsel;
Other special projects and responsibilities that may arise from time to time;
What we’re looking for:
Paralegal or law clerk certification required;
3-5 years of experience in (i) an in-house legal department or (ii) a combination of law firm and in-house legal department;
Experience working in banking and financial institutions or other similarly regulated industries is an asset;
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
Proficiency in Board document management systems, including Diligent, is an asset;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Fully bilingual (English and French), written and spoken;
Extremely well-organized, the successful candidate will also possess the ability to work under pressure, and handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently;
Strong attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to work on confidential and/or sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion;
Highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic self-starter;

What you can expect - pay & process:
Expected base salary range is $75,000 - $82,000, plus the opportunity to earn an annual incentive bonus tied to performance.
