Job Title: Senior Registrar – Obstetrics & Gynaecology

SHORT DESCRIPTION
An excellent opportunity to join as a Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at one of the most prestigious and leading hospitals in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care, managing patients across a broad range of clinical presentations, and working collaboratively with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Registrar – Obstetrics & Gynaecology will provide advanced clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology, supporting the management of both routine and complex cases under the supervision of Consultants. The role includes responsibility for antenatal and postnatal care, labour and delivery, emergency obstetric management, gynaecological assessment and treatment, and participation in surgical procedures appropriate to the candidate's level of training and experience.
The Senior Registrar will also contribute to the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and the ongoing development of departmental services.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide comprehensive assessment and management of patients presenting with obstetric and gynaecological conditions.
- Conduct antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
- Manage normal and high-risk pregnancies under appropriate Consultant supervision.
- Assess and manage obstetric emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, and other acute presentations.
- Participate in labour ward activities and assist with the management of complicated deliveries.
- Perform and assist with obstetric procedures and operative deliveries appropriate to the candidate's level of training and competency.
- Provide comprehensive gynaecological assessment and management, including common benign and acute gynaecological conditions.
- Participate in gynaecological surgical procedures appropriate to experience and hospital privileges.
- Assess patients presenting with acute pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, early pregnancy complications, and other emergency gynaecological conditions.
- Work closely with Consultants and specialists in managing complex obstetric and gynaecological cases.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to clinical decision-making.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, residents, and other medical staff where appropriate.
- Contribute to teaching, training, and professional development activities within the department.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records and clinical documentation.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programmes, and departmental initiatives.
- Apply evidence-based medical practices and comply with hospital policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
- Participate in emergency and on-call duties as required by the department.
- Maintain patient safety, confidentiality, dignity, and a patient-centred approach at all times.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous medical education, training, conferences, and other professional development activities.
- Adhere to the standards and regulations of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and relevant hospital authorities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Medical degree from a recognised and reputable medical school.
- Completion of the required postgraduate training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- Arab Board, Jordanian Board, Lebanese Board, or another recognised equivalent postgraduate qualification in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- The qualification must fulfil the requirements for Senior Registrar classification in Saudi Arabia.
- A professional classification/registration recognised by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) is required.
- DataFlow verification is required.
Professional Experience
- 2–4 years of relevant post-certification experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- Demonstrable experience in the management of routine and high-risk obstetric cases.
- Experience in labour ward management and obstetric emergencies.
- Relevant experience in general gynaecology and emergency gynaecological care.
- Surgical experience appropriate to the Senior Registrar level is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a recognised hospital or tertiary healthcare institution is preferred.
- Current registration with the relevant medical council/licensing authority is required.
- Previous Saudi experience or familiarity with SCFHS requirements would be an advantage.
Language
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Arabic language proficiency is an advantage, particularly for effective communication with patients and families.
