Position title : Roving Social Worker
Reporting to : Education Coordinator
Location : Baidoa with need-based deployment to new locations
Job summary:
The Roving Social Worker will provide technical and operational leadership for implementation of all Result 3 activities across project locations. The position strengthens school and community-based child protection systems, supervises community case workers, manages child protection case management processes through the CP Primero system, supports referrals and coordination with service providers, and builds the capacity of teachers, CECs and community protection structures. Working closely with the Roving Project Assistant and education teams, the role ensures learning environments remain safe, inclusive and protective while helping vulnerable children access quality child protection and psychosocial support services.
Job Responsibilities:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead planning, implementation and monitoring of all Result 3 activities across project locations.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentoring and performance support to community-based child protection case workers.
- Oversee identification, documentation, referral and follow-up of vulnerable children requiring protection services.
- Serve as focal person for the CP Primero+ case management system, ensuring quality data entry, case tracking, confidentiality and compliance with case management standards.
- Provide technical support to consortium social workers and community case workers on child protection case management and Primero data management when required.
- Conduct regular case reviews, case conferences and quality assurance checks to strengthen service quality and timely case closure.
- Lead service mapping exercises and maintain updated referral pathways for child protection, health, MHPSS, legal and other specialized services.
- Coordinate referrals and case follow-up with service providers and monitor referral completion.
- Represent the project in Child Protection Cluster meetings, Area Based Coordination forums and other relevant coordination platforms at field level.
- Coordinate closely with the Roving Project Assistant, schools, CECs, CCPCs and local authorities to strengthen protective learning environments.
- Plan and deliver capacity-building sessions for teachers, CECs, CCPCs, social workers and community volunteers on child protection, safeguarding, child rights, referrals and psychosocial support.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and supportive supervision following trainings to promote practical application of skills.
- Lead child-led safety audits in FLER, ABE and other supported learning centres and facilitate meaningful participation of children.
- Develop practical recommendations from safety audits and support schools and communities to address identified risks and safety concerns.
- Support establishment and strengthening of girls-friendly and child-friendly spaces and promote safe participation of children.
- Support safe identification and referral of children affected by abuse, neglect, violence, exploitation, family separation and psychosocial distress.
- Promote positive parenting, community engagement and awareness raising on child protection risks affecting girls and boys.
- Monitor safeguarding risks within schools and project activities and ensure appropriate actions are taken when concerns are reported.
- Contribute to protection assessments, conflict-sensitive protection analysis and situation monitoring to identify emerging child protection risks.
- Prepare high-quality reports, success stories, case studies and activity updates for management and donors.
Safeguarding, Gender and Disability Inclusion
- Champion a culture of safeguarding with zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, harassment and neglect.
- Ensure all child protection interventions follow the best interests of the child, do-no-harm principles and confidentiality requirements.
- Promote equal and meaningful participation of girls and boys in all project activities and decision-making processes.
- Ensure children with disabilities can safely access services, referrals, learning opportunities and community support mechanisms.
- Identify barriers affecting girls, children with disabilities and other vulnerable groups and work with stakeholders to address them.
- Strengthen the capacity of teachers and community structures on inclusion, gender sensitivity and disability-responsive programming.
- Ensure safeguarding, gender and disability considerations are integrated into safety audits, referrals, trainings and community engagement activities.
Coordination, Monitoring and Reporting
- Maintain accurate case management records and ensure timely reporting through CP Primero and project reporting tools.
- Analyze protection trends and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve programme quality.
- Coordinate regularly with consortium partners to support harmonized case management and referral practices.
- Support monitoring visits and provide technical guidance during field supervision missions.
- Immediately escalate high-risk protection incidents and safeguarding concerns to the Project Coordinator in line with established procedures.
- Performs other reasonable tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor
5. Data Protection
At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS-Kinderdorf International data protection laws.
Job competencies:
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Sociology, Community Development, Child Protection, Education, or a related social science field.
- Experience working with children in child protection/social work including knowledge of para-social skills.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant experience working with INGOs/NGO’s, UN agencies and/or local authorities in complex emergencies
- Good understanding and experience of working in Southwest state, especially Burhakaba, Afgoye, Marka and Berdale.
- Verbal fluency in English and Somali (Maay & Maxatiri).
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering capacity-building initiatives for teachers, Community Education Committees (CECs), Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CCPCs), volunteers, and local authorities, including coaching, mentoring, supportive supervision, and strengthening community-led protection mechanisms in hard-to-reach and underserved communities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity and ability to empathise with children and their carers
- Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.
- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours when necessary.
