Job description:
The role:
A private family based in London is looking for an experienced Private Chef to work closely with the family throughout the year. The role is approximately four days per week in London, with significantly more intensive work during the summer when the family travels to Europe and spends time at their villa and on boats. The chef will travel with the family and become a trusted part of their long-term household team. They are looking to start as soon as possible, but are not in a rush to find the right person.
Food and cuisine preferences:
The family prefers simple, healthy Mediterranean cooking using the best possible ingredients. Sourcing is a major part of the role, including visiting farmers markets and selecting high-quality organic or natural fish, meat, vegetables and other produce. Meals are generally straightforward, including salads, fish, meat and pasta, with lunch and dinner as the main focus. The family values excellent ingredients and precise preparation over complicated or overly formal cooking.
Contract and package:
This is a full-time, permanent role with a flexible schedule. During approximately nine months of the year in London, the chef will generally work around 35/40h over 4 days per week, with the exact days flexible and potentially including weekends. During the summer, the schedule becomes much more intensive, with approximately six days out of seven expected, subject to proper rest days. Additional hours will be compensated at an agreed higher rate. Salary is £100,000 to £140,000 per year gross, depending on experience and suitability. The engagement can be structured as employed or self-employed, depending on the chef's preference.
Accommodation in London may be provided or paid for near the family's home if required.
Additional information:
The family is looking for someone exceptionally tidy, organised, precise and meticulous, with a very low ego and a strong willingness to follow the family's preferences. Sourcing should be a significant part of the role, rather than simply shopping at high-end supermarkets. The chef should be comfortable working closely with the family, planning ahead, preparing food on a need basis and adapting to changing schedules. Private household experience is important, ideally with at least two years as a Private Chef.
A Michelin-starred restaurant background is highly valued because of the discipline, cleanliness, organisation and precision it develops. The ideal chef will also have a broad repertoire and be comfortable with simple family food rather than overcomplicating dishes. During summer travel, the chef will also cook for the family's temporary staff when required.
