About your team

The Asset Valuation department is comprised of two main functions - Pricing and Fair Value.

The Pricing function is responsible for the daily pricing of all securities held by onshore, offshore and institutional funds. The asset types covered include Equity, Fixed Income and Derivative instruments which are valued at multiple valuation points during the day.

The Fair Value function provides support to the Fair Value Committee who ensure that all FIL’s customers are treated fairly and equitably through implementation and application oversight of valuation policies. The Fair Value responsibilities include determining a reasonable value for securities that do not have regular exchange traded or market price, where outside influences could affect the value of associated holdings at the point of fund valuation. Fair value pricing is performed on both a market and individual security level.

About your role
 

The Senior Analyst role is responsible for ensuring FIL’s Fair Value procedures are applied to the portfolios’ holdings on a daily basis. This includes the supporting the controlled process and fulfilling the administrative, investigative, and reporting requirements of the Fair Value Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Operational
• Ensure all daily operational deadlines are met by the team including those designed to identify potential issues.
• Provide detailed analysis to the Manager on issues and escalate as appropriate in the absence of the Manager.
• Check all work completed by Analysts for accuracy.
• Support the running of the overall Asset Valuation process particularly during the valuation points.
• Ensure checklists are accurate and up to date daily.
• Troubleshoot issues and escalate where appropriate to Technology groups.
• Ensure all queries are responded to in a timely manner.
• Escalate risk exposure issues in a timely manner.


Team Working
• Build and maintain relationships with both internal stakeholders and external parties
• Support and participate in cross departmental projects
• Work with colleagues to generate and deliver effective solutions
• Escalate risk exposure issues in a timely manner.


Planning and Organising
• Organise and mobilise others to achieve effective outcomes displaying a systematic approach to work
• Oversee the continuing review of procedures and checklists, ensuring that best practice is in place and risk exposure has been addressed.
• Manage critical deadlines and responses to urgent valuation decisions, utilising team skills and strengths as appropriate
• Has a positive, hands on and constructive approach to all challenges
• Ensures team records are easily accessible and meet audit requirements

 

About you

Our ideal candidate requirements are:

• Experience in securities valuation, pricing, fund accounting, investment operations, or a related function.

• Strong understanding of asset classes including equities, fixed income, derivatives and private market investments.

• Understanding of valuation methodologies, including market, income and cost-based approaches.

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)

• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a time critical environment

• Capable of juggling and prioritising multiple tasks

• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

• Effective decision-maker; can present and defend an argument or decision

• Organised with excellent attention to detail

• Demonstrates strong sense of ownership; can work independently to deliver results

• Effective problem solver; can troubleshoot issue independently

• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

• Risk aware; learns from mistakes and does not repeat them.
