Description
ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Director, Business Operations, Oncology, serves as a strategic and operational partner to the President, Oncology Commercial, and member of the Commercial Oncology Leadership Team (COLT). Operating as a senior individual contributor in a highly matrixed environment, the role translates leadership priorities into a coordinated business agenda; mobilizes US and Global Franchise Leads and key functional partners across Finance, PX, Oncology R&D, U.S. Commercial, and other organizations; and provides orchestration, governance, and execution discipline across strategic planning, business performance, leadership operations, cross-functional initiatives, executive engagement, and the earnings preparation process.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Support the President and COLT in translating Commercial Oncology priorities into a coordinated agenda with clear outcomes, responsibilities, milestones, interdependencies, and measures of progress.
- Secure commitment from Franchise Leads, Finance, PX, IIS, CMO, Strategy & Consulting, and other functional partners and convert that commitment into coordinated execution against Commercial Oncology strategies and capabilities.
- Bring together relevant business and functional perspectives to frame strategic issues, clarify options and implications, and enable informed leadership decisions.
- Identify cross-business dependencies, gaps, competing priorities, and emerging risks that require leadership visibility, alignment, or resolution.
- Ensure leadership decisions are translated into clear actions, communicated to the appropriate stakeholders, and followed through to completion.
- Operate as a highly influential senior individual contributor, using trusted relationships, enterprise judgment, and political acuity to build alignment, create momentum, and sustain stakeholder commitment across organizational boundaries.
Business Operations
- Orchestrate the end-to-end Commercial Oncology Operating Plan process, including strategic, financial and long-range forecast planning, in partnership with the President, Franchise Leads, Finance, IIS, Strategy & Consulting, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Establish an integrated planning process, governance, timeline, and common expectations aligned with broader enterprise planning requirements.
- Coordinate inputs across Global, U.S., and International Commercial Oncology and ensure transparency regarding assumptions, interdependencies, deliverables, risks, and unresolved issues.
- Facilitate alignment among business and functional leaders and surface material choices or trade-offs for consideration by the appropriate leaders.
- Ensure the integration, consistency, and quality of Commercial Oncology planning outputs before review by the President and COLT.
- Establish and lead the operating rhythm and business-performance cadence for the President and COLT, ensuring timely visibility of progress, risks, and priorities requiring leadership attention.
- Lead end-to-end governance of COLT meetings, including agenda development, sequencing of topics, stakeholder coordination, quality of materials, documentation of decisions, and follow-through.
- Ensure the President is fully prepared and briefed for Pfizer and Oncology governance forums, including OSGT and PMT, coordinating materials, pre-reads, and positioning in advance of each session.
- Partner with the Business Operations leads for the Chief Oncology Officer and Chief U.S. Commercial Officer to support the President’s contributions to OLT and USLT — including presentation content, off-site materials, and follow-through on commitments — engaging as needed given the confidential nature of those forums.
- Integrate and assure the quality of executive presentations, briefing documents, Board materials, Earnings Reports, and other critical leadership deliverables.
- Lead coordination of the Commercial Oncology earnings preparation process, including timeline management, input collection, narrative development, Q&A preparation, stakeholder alignment, and quality review of materials in partnership with relevant business leaders.
- Coordinate high-quality and timely responses to requests from the Executive Leadership Team, Board members, Investor Relations, Oncology leaders, and other senior stakeholders.
- Facilitate resolution of complex cross-functional issues by convening the appropriate stakeholders, clarifying differences, and establishing a path to resolution.
- Serve as a proxy for the President in select meetings and forums when she is unavailable, representing her positions and priorities and ensuring decisions made in her absence are accurately captured and followed through.
Internal/External Interfaces
- Coordinate with Communications, Media Relations, Policy & Public Affairs, PX, and other partners to support an integrated executive engagement and communication agenda for the President and Commercial Oncology.
- Bring together functional expertise and business priorities to help shape relevant internal and external engagement opportunities.
- Provide perspective and recommendations regarding the sequencing, alignment, and business relevance of executive engagements.
- Coordinate the planning and quality of leadership forums and off-sites, quarterly commercial Oncology townhalls, colleague meetings, customer engagements, conferences, and other significant events.
- Support clear and consistent communication of Commercial Oncology priorities, leadership decisions, progress, and expectations.
- Partner with PX to support the Commercial Oncology employer narrative and broader colleague engagement priorities.
- Uphold and role model Pfizer Values and Actionable Attitudes and act as an ambassador for Pfizer and Oncology Commercial.
Project Leadership
- Lead selected strategic and operational initiatives on behalf of the President and COLT, particularly where success depends on coordination across multiple franchises, functions, or geographies.
- Clarify the objective, scope, governance, stakeholder roles, milestones, interdependencies, and expected outcomes for assigned initiatives.
- Mobilize the appropriate business leaders, functional experts, and enterprise resources required to advance the work.
- Maintain visibility of progress, risks, dependencies, and required leadership actions; anticipate barriers and elevate material issues to the appropriate leader.
- Connect related initiatives across Commercial Oncology to improve sequencing, reduce duplication, and strengthen collective business impact.
- Ensure cross-functional work results in clear recommendations, decisions, actions, and sustained follow-through.
