What you’ll be doing...
As a Principal Cloud Architect, you will lead the design, implementation, assessment, optimization, and consultation of our hybrid multi-cloud environment supporting business-critical infrastructure for Government clients. In this role, you will drive complex cloud migrations, embed robust security controls, and champion a culture of operational and technical excellence.
Responsibilities:
Leading the design and architectural strategy for enterprise-level hybrid multi-cloud (AWS and Azure) environments to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, scalability, and robust security.
Spearheading the migration of legacy applications and guiding greenfield deployments, leveraging experience with legacy networking and security infrastructure to ensure seamless, secure transitions.
Leading cloud integration with existing on-premises infrastructure, including networking, identity, security, monitoring, and operational processes.
Championing automation by designing, provisioning, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) blueprints using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and Puppet.
Building, managing, and improving CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and AWS CodePipeline to support infrastructure and application deployment.
Embedding security best practices into cloud architectures in alignment with the ACSC Cloud Security Framework, Information Security Manual (ISM), and Australian regulatory frameworks.
Monitoring cloud usage and driving cloud cost optimization, performing capacity planning, and architecting cost-effective solutions across AWS and Azure.
What we’re looking for…
You enjoy solving tough technical problems and building solutions that deliver real results. You are a skilled architect with deep AWS expertise, solid Azure skills, and proven experience bridging cloud platforms with existing on-prem infrastructure.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Ten or more years of relevant work experience in IT.
Six or more years as a Cloud Architect for enterprise-scale environments supporting Federal Government projects and programs.
Experience moving complex workloads from legacy data centres to AWS and Azure.
Experience with VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, and related services.
Practical experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/AWS CodePipeline), and scripting (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
AWS Certified Solutions Architect certifications – Associate or Professional.
Active NV1 Security clearance (or above) required on day one.
Even better if you have:
Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Deep understanding of Australian security policies (PSPF, ISM, Essential 8).
Strong background in cloud networking (Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, VPNs, Transit Gateways).
Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS, AKS).
Working knowledge of core Azure services (VNet, Azure SQL, Entra ID, Azure Monitor).
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value for government leaders.
Passion for mentoring junior engineers and creating operational runbooks.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
