Role:   IT Temporary Worker - Level 1 Help Desk

 SUMMARY

This temporary position will provide Level 1 IT support to end users at KSB, Inc.’s Richmond, VA office. The IT Temporary Worker will manage tickets through the IT service management system and assist IT Support Engineers. This temporary role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual pursuing higher education in an information technology field.

This engagement is for a period of 8 weeks at up to 24 hours per week. The individual will work on-site in Richmond, VA and will report directly to the IT Manager. This position does not include benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Categorizes and tracks incoming help desk tickets in the service management system; updates ticket status and ensures timely resolution or escalation.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves common hardware and software issues including desktop and laptop computers, monitors, printers, and peripheral devices.
  • Installs, configures, and supports standard business applications including Microsoft Office 365, web browsers, and other approved software.
  • Escalates unresolved or complex issues to Level 2 or Level 3 IT staff with accurate documentation and clear communication of troubleshooting steps already taken.
  • Documents resolutions and contributes to the IT knowledge base to support recurring issue resolution.
  • Provides basic setup and support for video conferencing and meeting room technology (e.g., Teams, webcams, projectors).
  • Maintains a clean, organized IT work area and assists with equipment inventory tracking as needed.
  • Communicates professionally with end users and provides timely status updates on open requests.
  • Adheres to all IT department policies, security procedures, and data handling guidelines.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the IT Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma and/or study towards a degree or certificate in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows 10/11 operating systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Familiarity with ticketing or service management tools (e.g., KACE, ServiceNow, Zendesk, or similar) is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Customer-focused attitude with a positive, professional demeanor and a sense of urgency. Ability to work independently and manage multiple open tickets simultaneously. Attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

No certifications are required for this temporary position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods, move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasionally crouch or reach to connect cabling and hardware in office environments.

Pay Rate: $18 - $22 per hour
