Description
The City of Indianola invites applicants for the position of Clerk/Finance Office Assistant. The position will perform a variety of financial, general clerical, customer service and confidential administrative support duties for the Clerk/Finance Department. Work requires accuracy, attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work semi-independently while exercising good judgment. Responsibilities may include, but is not limited to, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, clerical, front desk and administrative operations, data entry, records management, and general office support. The position interacts with both internal staff and the public and supports key financial and administrative functions of the department.
The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Receives funds paid for services and maintains records of Accurately prepare bank deposits and maintain records. Take deposits to the bank as needed.
- Create and mail/email AR invoices monthly and others as needed. Track payments as received.
- Performs data entry, typing, scanning, filing, and other clerical duties as directed.
- Assist in maintaining both paper and electronic filing systems.
- Answer and route telephone calls; greet and assist walk-in customers. Provide general information regarding City services, departmental operations, policies, and procedures.
The successful candidate will have:
- Associate's degree or higher and/or Certified Bookkeeper.
- Minimum of one (1) year of financial or clerical experience, including data entry, cash handling, and customer A combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
- Knowledge of municipal regulations is preferred.
- Ability to remain professional and effective when dealing with difficult or sensitive situations.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain deadlines, and follow established schedules.

This is a part-time position with an estimate of 15 hours per week. The salary for this position is $25.53/hour. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check. Position open until filled. A first review of applications will take place September 28, 2026.
