What is the Opportunity?
The Workday Solutions Senior Manager is the technical backbone and people leader for RBC's Workday platform, accountable for its architectural integrity—configuration, integrations, data model, and security. This role ensures the platform remains stable, governable, and extensible.
The Senior Manager Workday Solutions Designer, governs, and evolves RBC's Workday technical design within HRDS, while leading a team of functional configuration, security and data analysts. The role combines hands-on experience (integrations, configuration design, security and data) with solutions design and people leadership across the Workday Platform — ensuring consistency, scalability, and compliance as the platform grows, and that the team executing the work is well-managed and developing.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership
- Prioritize work across the team, balancing BAU security/data management/workflow configuration requests against project and BAU initiatives.
- Contribute to building team capability over time — cross-training, secondment where useful, and identifying growth paths within the Platform.
- Foster a team culture of documentation, peer review, and knowledge-sharing so design decisions don't live with any one individual.
Design & Build
- Own the Workday functional design standards: business process framework, security groups, data model, and integration landscape.
- Define and maintain design standards, design patterns, and reusable frameworks for configuration and integration work.
- Review proposed configuration changes, tenant customizations, and new integrations for architectural fit, scalability, and risk before build.
- Lead and support complex, cross-module, or cross-system initiatives (e.g., new module rollouts, M&A integrations, AI/agent data access patterns).
Integrations & Platform Management
- Co-design and oversee integrations using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connector, and Workday's API/web services layer.
- Maintain dependency mapping across Workday and connected systems (ServiceNow, SAP, other downstream/vendor systems, data platforms).
- In partnership with IT, define and maintain the tenant/environment strategy (sandbox, preview, production) and release management practices, including regression and impact assessment.
Security & Data Governance
- Maintain the Workday -SAP co-existence framework (domain/business process security, segment-based security), directing the security analyst team on implementation and ongoing administration.
- Oversee the data analyst team's work on Workday / SAP data sync, data quality, and extracts, ensuring outputs align with the broader data architecture.
- Partner with HR and IT to ensure Workday data is structured and governed in a way that supports downstream consumption (reporting, Snowflake, AI agents).
- Establish quality-control and peer-review practices for design and security changes and data deliverables produced by the team.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as the senior technical escalation point within the Workday Platform for design conflicts, feasibility questions, and complex troubleshooting.
- Mentor Digital Solutions teams on design best practices.
- Partner with the ServiceNow Platform, IT and enterprise architecture/security teams on cross-platform design decisions.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years in Workday, with demonstrated expert level technical experience.
- Practical experience with, Phenom, VNDLY, ServiceNow, S/4 HANA, Microsoft access management and other enterprise applications at global scope.
- Prior people management experience, ideally leading technical/analyst teams; comfort balancing hands-on design, configuration work with team leadership.
- Deep expertise in Workday data model, security architecture, and business process framework.
- Hands-on integration experience: Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, PECI, RaaS, Workday APIs.
- Experience managing tenant/release strategy across a multi-module Workday deployment.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data governance and security principles, ideally in a regulated industry (financial services preferred).
- Proven ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into sound, scalable technical designs.
- Excellent stakeholder communication — able to explain design tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Workday certifications (i.e. Integrations, HCM Core, Procure to pay, or Security).
- Experience supporting AI/data platform initiatives (e.g., data pipelines to Snowflake or similar) that consume Workday data.
- Experience operating in a large, matrixed enterprise environment with formal change/release governance.
- Exposure to ServiceNow or other HR service delivery platforms.
