Job summary:

Acrisure is seeking a Technical Underwriting Analyst to support the continued development and evolution of Vave's wholesale insurance platform. This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, product, data, and technology, helping ensure that digital underwriting workflows are efficient, intuitive, and aligned with the needs of insurance partners and internal teams.

This individual will work closely with underwriters, insurance partners, product managers, analysts, and development teams to evaluate existing processes, analyze data, identify workflow challenges, define business requirements, and support improvements to Vave's technology. For example, when a process includes unnecessary steps or creates friction for users, this role will help determine why, identify a more effective approach, and translate the business need into clear requirements for product and development teams.

The ideal candidate combines insurance industry knowledge with strong technical and analytical capabilities. Candidates should understand underwriting and insurance workflows while also being comfortable working with data, business intelligence tools, digital platforms, and product development teams. This is not a software development role, but the successful candidate must be technically proficient enough to analyze problems, understand how systems and workflows interact, and communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.

This is a remote position. Candidates should be comfortable working Central or Eastern Time business hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong understanding of Vave's underwriting products, platform capabilities, workflows, and partner needs
  • Analyze underwriting and operational workflows to identify inefficiencies, unnecessary steps, user pain points, and opportunities for automation or improvement
  • Use data and analytical tools to investigate platform activity, evaluate underwriting trends, identify root causes, and support product decisions
  • Partner with underwriting, product, analytics, operations, and development teams to translate business needs into clear platform requirements and technology solutions
  • Gather, document, and communicate business requirements, workflows, user needs, and enhancement opportunities
  • Work with insurance agents, brokers, underwriters, and other platform users to understand how they interact with Vave and identify opportunities to improve the user experience
  • Investigate complex platform and workflow issues and coordinate solutions across business and technical teams
  • Support the development, testing, and implementation of new platform functionality, underwriting products, and workflow enhancements
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and validate that new functionality meets business and underwriting requirements
  • Analyze platform usage and operational data to identify trends, adoption challenges, and opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Evaluate how proposed platform or workflow changes may impact underwriters, brokers, agents, capacity partners, and other stakeholders
  • Translate insurance concepts and business needs for technical teams while explaining technical concepts clearly to insurance stakeholders
  • Support documentation of requirements, processes, system functionality, testing results, and product enhancements
  • Partner with product teams throughout the development lifecycle to help ensure solutions address the underlying business need
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external insurance partners
  • Manage multiple initiatives and priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Experience within wholesale insurance, excess and surplus lines, an MGA, insurance carrier, underwriting organization, or underwriting operations environment required
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance and underwriting workflows, including how agents, brokers, underwriters, MGAs, carriers, and other insurance partners interact throughout the underwriting process
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, Tableau, Power BI, or similar data analysis, business intelligence, or data visualization tools required
  • Experience analyzing workflows, business processes, or digital platforms and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency or user experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business problems and user needs into clear requirements, workflows, recommendations, or technology solutions
  • Experience using data to investigate problems, identify trends, evaluate performance, or support business and product decisions
  • Experience working with product, technology, analytics, or development teams to support platform enhancements or technology solutions
  • Experience in technical underwriting, underwriting operations, insurance product, product ownership, business analysis, insurance technology, or a related function highly beneficial
  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements, process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, or similar product documentation highly beneficial
  • Experience supporting user acceptance testing, technology implementations, platform enhancements, or workflow improvement initiatives highly beneficial
  • Experience with insurance portals, digital underwriting platforms, policy administration systems, or other insurance technology highly beneficial
  • Understanding of wholesale and E&S insurance products and the digital underwriting marketplace highly beneficial
  • Familiarity with APIs, system integrations, data structures, or similar technical concepts beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex issues and identify root causes
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and insurance audiences
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with insurance partners, product teams, developers, analysts, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, requests, and competing priorities

Education and licenses:

  • Bachelor's degree beneficial
  • Education or certifications in business analysis, product management, data analytics, insurance, underwriting, technology, or a related field beneficial
  • Insurance designations, underwriting education, or additional industry training beneficial
