Young Life shall only employ individuals or enlist volunteer leaders who: (a) profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord; and (b) subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith. Therefore, employees and volunteers of Young Life, during working and nonworking hours, shall: (i) be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization; (ii) refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life, and (iii) abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.
Ministry Functions:
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
- Meet with your volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.
- Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
- Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.
- Attend and be involved with area leadership as assigned.
Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
- Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
- Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
- Assist with camp fundraisers and attend occasional committee and adult functions as assigned.
Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp. Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
- Participate in leadership with a team to conduct a Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
- Participate on a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
- Potentially serve on summer staff or assigned staff at a Young Life property with input and direction from the area director.
Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
- Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
- Learn to set yearly ministry and personal goals and objectives; review them on a regular basis.
- Assist in the office administration when necessary and assigned.
- Complete expense reports as necessary in a clear and timely fashion.
- Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.
Regional Training
- At the regional director’s prerogative, certain regional training events may be required.
Area Training
- Work through job assignments under the supervision of the area director or assigned mentor (assignments may be adapted to fit individual needs and the area situation)
- Receive individualized training supervised by the area director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
- Give particular focus to an individualized program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills (i.e. The 5 C’s).
- Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.
- Receive introduction to personal fund-raising principles, including familiarity with Basic Elements for Part-Time Staff
- Take advantage of Young Life discipleship experiences (e.g. summer staff, discipleship focus, adventure camping).
Education:
- Pursuing a college degree.
Qualifications Required For The Job:
Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.

Developing Future Leader (DFL)
High School Ministry
Core Responsibilities
1. Serve as a Young Life Leader
The DFL will continue to fulfill all normal expectations of a Young Life leader, including:
Building authentic relationships with high school students.
Consistently pursuing students outside of Club.
Attending and actively participating in Club and Campaigners.
Sharing the Gospel and introducing teenagers to Jesus Christ.
Participating in Young Life camp and area-wide events.
Developing relationships with parents, teachers, coaches, and other influential adults.
Praying regularly for students, leaders, and the ministry.
Modeling the mission, values, and culture of Young Life.
These responsibilities are in addition to the 10 hours per week dedicated to the DFL role.
2. Develop as a Future Leader
The primary purpose of the DFL role is to provide intentional opportunities for the individual to grow in leadership.
The DFL will:
Learn and grow in Young Life leadership.
Take increasing ownership of ministry responsibilities.
Develop skills in communication, organization, planning, and team leadership.
Learn how to recruit, equip, encourage, and develop other leaders.
Practice leading meetings, projects, and ministry initiatives.
Seek opportunities to identify and develop future leaders.
Receive regular coaching and feedback from the Area Director.
Take initiative rather than waiting to be assigned every responsibility.
Develop a deeper understanding of the mission, vision, and strategy of Gallatin Valley Young Life.
The expectation is that the DFL will grow in responsibility throughout the year as their leadership capacity increases.
3. Serve the High School Ministry Team
The DFL will provide additional support to the High School Ministry Team by:
Checking in regularly with Young Life leaders.
Encouraging and supporting leaders in their ministry.
Helping new leaders understand Young Life culture and expectations.
Assisting with leader meetings and trainings.
Helping communicate important information to leaders.
Helping plan and prepare for Club and Campaigners.
Assisting with special events and area-wide initiatives.
Helping identify areas where the leadership team needs additional support.
Taking ownership of specific projects assigned by the Area Director.
Helping create a healthy, unified, and encouraging leadership team.4. Student Ministry
The DFL will continue to prioritize reaching students who are far from Jesus.
Responsibilities may include:
Helping identify students who are not currently connected to Young Life.
Encouraging leaders to pursue new students.
Helping evaluate the health of Club and Campaigners.
Assisting with student outreach initiatives.
Helping leaders think strategically about reaching their schools and communities.
Celebrating stories of students encountering Jesus and growing in their faith.
The DFL should never lose sight of the primary mission:
To introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.
5. Spiritual Wellness
The DFL is expected to prioritize their own spiritual health as a foundational part of their leadership.
Because Young Life ministry flows out of a leader's relationship with Jesus, the DFL will intentionally pursue a healthy and growing spiritual life through:
Regular prayer.
Regular engagement with Scripture.
Active participation in a local church.
Meaningful Christian community.
Healthy rhythms of rest and Sabbath.
Personal reflection and spiritual evaluation.
Accountability with trusted Christian friends and leaders.
Regularly evaluating their relationship with Jesus and their motivations for ministry.
The DFL understands that ministry activity cannot replace a healthy relationship with Jesus.
The Area Director will regularly check in with the DFL regarding their spiritual, relational, and ministry health.
6. Fundraising & Financial Partnership
The DFL will participate in the financial support of Gallatin Valley Young Life.
Annual Fundraising Goal:
$6,000 per year
Monthly Goal:
$500 per month
The DFL will:
Develop a personal support team.
Invite individuals to financially partner with their ministry.
Communicate regularly with financial supporters.
Participate in Young Life fundraising opportunities.
Work with the Area Director to develop a fundraising plan.
Demonstrate consistency and initiative in pursuing their fundraising goal.
Fundraising is viewed not simply as raising money, but as inviting others to participate in the mission of reaching teenagers with the Gospel.
7. Individual Metrics & Accountability
Each DFL will work with the Area Director to establish individual ministry metrics at the beginning of their term.
These metrics will be based on the individual's strengths, responsibilities, school/community assignment, and the current needs of the High School Ministry.
Potential metrics may include:
Number of students relationally pursued.
New students connected to Young Life.
Leader recruitment.
Leader retention and engagement.
Leader check-ins.
Club attendance and growth.
Campaigners participation.
Camp participation.
Gospel conversations.
School/community connections.
Completion of assigned ministry projects.
Fundraising progress.
Leadership development goals.
Personal spiritual development goals.
The DFL agrees to:
Know their individual metrics.
Work consistently toward those goals.
Track progress when appropriate.
Discuss progress regularly with the Area Director.
Receive coaching and accountability.
Adjust goals as ministry needs change.
Metrics are not intended simply to measure activity. They are tools to help the DFL and Area Director evaluate growth, health, effectiveness, and faithfulness to the mission.
8. Communication & Team Culture
The DFL is expected to model healthy communication and team culture.
This includes:
Responding to communication in a timely manner.
Communicating proactively when challenges arise.
Following through on commitments.
Bringing concerns directly to the appropriate leader.
Maintaining confidentiality when appropriate.
Celebrating other leaders.
Encouraging unity within the team.
Being willing to receive feedback and correction.
Approaching conflict with humility and a desire for restoration.
The DFL should be someone who adds health to the team rather than simply completing tasks.
Time Commitment
The DFL role requires approximately:
10 hours per week dedicated to DFL responsibilities

The weekly schedule may vary depending on the season of ministry.
Relationship with the Area Director
The DFL will serve under the leadership and direction of the Gallatin Valley Young Life Area Director.
The Area Director will:
Provide vision and direction.
Establish individual goals and metrics with the DFL.
Provide coaching and leadership development.
Meet regularly with the DFL.
Give feedback and accountability.
Gradually increase responsibility as the DFL demonstrates readiness.
The DFL will:
Take initiative.
Communicate consistently.
Follow through on commitments.
Ask questions when needed.
Receive coaching with humility.
Own assigned responsibilities.
Pursue continued growth as a leader.

The Goal of the DFL Role
The goal of the Developing Future Leader position is not simply to do more ministry.
The goal is to develop a leader who can eventually lead others.
A successful DFL will finish their time in the role:
Growing deeper in their relationship with Jesus.
Growing in confidence and leadership ability.
Understanding Young Life ministry more deeply.
Taking greater ownership of ministry.
Developing the ability to lead and encourage others.
Identifying and investing in future leaders.
Reaching more students with the Gospel.
Becoming prepared to take on greater leadership within Gallatin Valley Young Life.
In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is outlined below. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the United States.
The anticipated hourly rate for this position can range from $10.85-$16.35 depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
