Job Description:
Role Summary:
The Laboratory Services Project Manager serves as a strategic partner to the Sr. Director, Laboratory Services, supporting both high-level administrative functions and complex operational initiatives. The role bridges administrative coordination with hands-on laboratory operations support, including practice integrations, new laboratory launches, training, and cross-functional alignment across clinical, technical, and business teams. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in healthcare or laboratory environments, with the ability to manage competing priorities while driving key initiatives forward.
This role is critical to scaling laboratory operations, ensuring seamless integrations, and enabling the Sr. Director of Laboratory Services to operate efficiently at both strategic and operational levels. The Laboratory Services Project Manager will play a key role in driving growth, improving processes, and supporting the successful expansion of laboratory services enterprise wide.
Responsibilities:
Manage enterprise laboratory projects from planning through implementation, ensuring timelines, milestones, budgets, and deliverables are achieved.
Develop project plans, monitor progress, identify risks, and coordinate cross-functional teams to support strategic laboratory initiatives.
Track action items and key performance indicators while providing regular project status updates and executive reports to leadership.
Facilitate communication among stakeholders to ensure alignment, accountability, and successful execution of organizational initiatives.
Support change management efforts by coordinating implementation activities, documentation, training, and communication plans.
Support operational oversight across multiple laboratory sites to ensure alignment with enterprise goals and standardized laboratory practices.
Coordinate development, implementation, and continuous improvement of laboratory workflows, standard operating procedures, and operational best practices.
Collaborate with laboratory managers to monitor operational metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and support process optimization initiatives.
Partner with Quality and Compliance teams to maintain regulatory readiness and accreditation compliance (CLIA, CAP, state regulations).
Facilitate communication and coordination across pathology, histology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, and core laboratory operations.
Lead project coordination for the integration of newly acquired practices, laboratories, and ambulatory surgery centers into the laboratory network.
Develop and manage detailed integration project plans, implementation schedules, and cross-functional deliverables.
Coordinate with IT, EMR/LIS teams, operations, and vendors to support interface development, system implementations, workflow standardization, and data migration.
Ensure consistent laboratory operations, logistics, test menus, reporting standards, and operational readiness during onboarding activities.
Serve as the primary project coordinator for integration initiatives, proactively identifying and resolving implementation challenges.
Coordinate project planning and execution for new laboratory launches, including facility readiness, equipment procurement, staffing coordination, and operational implementation.
Develop and manage project timelines, milestone tracking, risk mitigation plans, and go-live readiness activities.
Coordinate vendor relationships, equipment installations, service agreements, and implementation schedules.
Support validation planning, staff training coordination, regulatory readiness, and operational ramp-up activities.
Provide executive leadership with routine project updates, milestone reporting, and recommendations to ensure successful laboratory launches.

Required or Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field) preferred
3–7+ years of experience in healthcare, laboratory operations, project manager, or administrative support roles
Strong understanding of clinical laboratory environments (e.g., histology, molecular, core lab, pathology) preferred
Able to work weekends or holidays as required by the operation.
