Quality Control Engineer

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, specifications and submittals, then ensuring precise documentation of quality control inspections. The candidate will work for the Quality Manager and coordinate with the various superintendents and project engineers to ensure all work is observed and inspections are documented as required. The Quality Control Engineer must be able to communicate effectively with subcontractors, team members and the client to convey issues and solutions.

· Perform field inspections as required, for compliance with specifications, submittals, and project drawings. Complete and document inspections by electronic means using laptop, I-Pad or Surface.

· Monitor trades and document Inspections. Observe 3rd party testing technician’s procedures and interact with subcontractors to ensure all work is in compliance with civil and structural drawings. Inspect fill and backfill operations and provide recommendations when requirements are not achieved.

· Inspect concrete work for correct installation of rebar, forms, support, concrete placement and finishing in compliance with specifications, drawings and ACI requirements. Coordinate for re-inspection when work is not in compliance with project documents.

· Inspect structural and miscellaneous steel for correct installation of steel, siding, roofing in compliance with specifications, drawings and ASCE requirements. Coordinate for re-inspection when work is not in compliance with project documents.

· Inspect plumbing and HVAC work for correct installation including witnessing of testing in compliance with specifications, drawings and various code requirements. Coordinate for re-inspection when work is not in compliance with project documents.

· Inspect electrical work for correct installation of cable trays, conduits and cabling in compliance with specifications, drawings and NEC code requirements. Coordinate for re-inspection when work is not in compliance with project documents.

· Monitor and document Architectural inspections and lead inspection teams consisting of superintendents, field managers and subcontractors to verify architectural work meets project requirements and assist in mechanical and electrical inspections.

· Assist Quality Manager and Project Engineers with Preparatory Meetings for each required work feature and conduct Initial and Follow-on inspections.

· Utilize internal quality assurance/quality control systems and tools to prepare reports for superintendents, subcontractors and clients.

· Utilize BIM models to review and document quality control concerns and issues.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent. Professional industry training and experience.

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Construction Quality Inspector, Project Engineer or Superintendent on large commercial or Government projects.

· Ability to work independently and prepare inspection reports by electronic means.

· Ability to communicate findings with subcontractors, internal team and client.

· Proficient in MS Office including Word and Excel.

· Proficient with navigating through a 3D model such as Navisworks.

· Ability to quickly learn new construction management software.

· Ability to read and interpret drawings and understand requirements found in specifications, Submittals and RFIs.

· Certifications related to civil and structural work are preferred.

· Federal Construction Work experience is preferred.
