GENERAL SUMMARY

WireCrafters is seeking an Engineering Software Developer to build and improve custom software used by our engineering and manufacturing teams.  This role is focused on Autodesk Inventor automation, engineering drawings and the creation of configurable parts and assemblies through code.

We are moving away from relying heavily on Autodesk Factory Design so we can create more flexible, customized engineering tools.  The developer in this role will work directly with engineering users to automate repetitive CAD tasks and expand our internal design-automation capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain engineering applications using C#, VB.NET / Visual Basic, and the Microsoft .NET platform.
• Use the Autodesk Inventor API to create, modify, and configure parts and assemblies programmatically.
• Automate engineering drawings, including views, dimensions, annotations, parts lists, and related drawing objects.
• Build tools for automated component placement, constraints, parameters, iProperties, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Improve and support existing VB and C# engineering applications while helping modernize legacy workflows.
• Work with engineers and manufacturing personnel to translate manual design processes into reliable software workflows.
• Troubleshoot CAD automation issues and write organized, maintainable, documented code.
• Assist with integrations between engineering software, Autodesk systems, databases, and other business systems as needed.

• Create an Inventor assembly through code based on product or job requirements.
• Automatically place and constrain components using defined engineering rules.
• Generate accurate production-ready drawings from configured assemblies with less manual drafting.
• Reduce repetitive engineering work while improving consistency, maintainability and speed.
• Become a dependable technical resource for both software development and CAD automation.

Requirements

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Required Core Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software-development experience, preferably in engineering, manufacturing, CAD, or design automation.
• Working knowledge of C# and the .NET ecosystem; ability to read, maintain, or develop Visual Basic / VB.NET code.
• Experience with object-oriented programming and Visual Studio.
• Hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor or another mechanical 3D CAD platform.
• Understanding of mechanical assemblies, engineering drawings, BOMs, parameters, and parametric modeling concepts.
• Ability to analyze a technical workflow, work independently through problems, and communicate effectively with engineering users.
• Experience with Git or another source-control system.

Preferred Qualifications

• Autodesk Inventor API, iLogic, Autodesk Vault, or Vault API experience.
• CAD API / automation experience with Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, or a similar platform.
• SQL / SQL Server, REST APIs, JSON, XML, or application-integration experience.
• Experience with product configurators, rules-based engineering, automated drawing generation, or BOM automation.
• Background in manufacturing, steel fabrication, engineered-to-order products, CNC data, or production systems.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is preferred. An associate degree combined with strong relevant software/CAD automation experience will also be considered. Equivalent professional experience may substitute for formal education.
