REPORTS TO: Security Supervisor/ Manager
FLSA STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt
This is a part-time, event based, union, hourly position paying $21.25 per hour.

Job Summary
Security Team Members are responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all guests, employees, performers, and event personnel at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Team members monitor venue activity, enforce established safety and security policies, respond to and document incidents, and provide assistance as needed to support the overall safety and security of the facility. The ideal candidate is professional, alert, dependable, and safety-focused, with strong communication skills and sound judgment. Team members must remain calm under pressure, respond appropriately to changing situations, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety and security of the facility, property, guests, employees, and event personnel.
- Lock and unlock facility doors and secure designated areas.
- Conduct routine patrols and property walks throughout the building, grounds, and perimeter.
- Monitor entrances, exits, restricted areas, and other designated access points.
- Perform access control procedures for vehicles, employees, contractors, visitors, and event personnel.
- Maintain a highly visible security presence to deter illegal, unsafe, or inappropriate activity.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, disturbances, security concerns, and other incidents.
- De-escalate and appropriately address unruly, disruptive, or non-compliant individuals.
- Enforce venue policies, procedures, and security protocols while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
- Monitor alarm systems, surveillance systems, and other security equipment.
- Investigate and report suspicious activity, disturbances, safety concerns, and security breaches.
- Immediately communicate significant incidents or security breaches to appropriate supervisors and/or law enforcement personnel.
- Assist with coordination of off-duty Police and Fire Department details as needed.
- Work closely with local Police, Fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel when required.
- Perform routine checks of security systems and equipment and report deficiencies or malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate and timely incident reports, logs, observations, and surveillance documentation.
- Provide information and direction to guests, employees, and visitors regarding security procedures and venue policies.
- Exercise sound judgment when assessing situations and determining the appropriate immediate response.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining effective communication with the Security team and venue management.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall safety and security of the venue.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid New York State Security Guard License.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 2 years of security guard experience; experience in an arena, stadium, entertainment venue, or similar environment preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and event days.
- Strong situational awareness and sound decision-making skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with guests, employees, performers, management, law enforcement, and other event personnel.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to effectively supervise or direct staff when assigned.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic or written reports.
- Professional appearance, demeanor, and work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
